About Me

ModMySpace Profile Customizer OUR NEXT FILM: "ROADS OF ASGARD" IS COMPLETE.

Hey there! We've just released our Viking movie: "Roads of Asgard" check out the trailer!
We’re a group that likes to make movies in our spare time. Unlike most of our counterparts, who make profit from their films, our films tend to be non-profit fanfilms that are free to watch online. We consider ourselves amateurs for now, but who knows, maybe one day you'll see our logo in movie theaters. As we move into making student productions for UTEP, that goal is getting closer.

Towne Films was started in 2003 when Robert Towne and a group of friends decided to turn their play about a trip to Mars into a movie instead. And so Walk to Moons was created. Robert was fascinated with Walk to Moons (as crappy as it was), and decided to continue making more movies. In 2004, Robert along with Michael Martinez and Jorge Gomez created a movie on Beowulf for their High School English class.
In 2005, Towne Films entered the fanfilm genre and made Star Wars Episode III: A New Empire , a parody of Revenge of the Sith, and the first in a sequence of Star Wars parodies to be made every fall. In the summer of 2006, fascination with Romans and barbarians lead Towne Films to create a war drama based on the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD called Legiones Redde . The film was met with enthusiasm from fans of the popular Rome Total War PC game and fans of HBOs Rome series.
In the fall of 2006, work on a new, more elaborate Star Wars parody got underway as Star Wars Episode IV: An Empire Divided was made. Steven Rigby (aka Sven Tuonela or "Isenmann") joined the productions and lended his expertise. The film featured a vast amount of visual effects that Towne Films could only have dreamed about a few years earlier.
In the summer of 2007, production got started on Towne Films' most ambitious home movie project, Wounds of Sand, a World War II drama that centers on an Allied squad trying to survive in the Battle of Kasserine Pass in 1943 Tunisia. You can watch the film here:
In March 2008, we released the latest chapter of our Star Wars parody saga entitled "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Reloaded." It is based on "The Empire Strikes Back," and continues the story from our previous Star Wars parodies (of course with a few technical upgrades). The film is the first to make use of our new editing software, Sony Vegas Platinum 8.

..

In the Fall of 2008, Towne Films worked on a short horror film for a video class at UTEP. The film, called "Static," is now playing. It features an original soundtrack including a guitar track from Sven Tuonela, the guitarist of FrostFyre.

Since 2007, Towne Films has been planning to make a movie that would take place during the age of the sword. The project has not been without difficulty. We've come close to producing several different ideas, but we've also been met with setbacks. Now, in the Spring 2009, Towne Films finally released such a film for one of Robert's classes at UTEP. The film is called "Roads of Asgard" and focuses on the Varangian Guard, a group of Viking mercenaries who defend the Byzantine emperor during the time of the crusades.

ROADS OF ASGARD HAS NOW BEEN RELEASED ONLINE IN 3 PARTS. BELOW IS A PLAYLIST OF THE FILM. THE NEXT PART WILL START PLAYING AS SOON AS THE ONE YOU'RE ON IS FINISHED.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Any of our fans, or people interested in stuff such as WWII, Star Wars, Rome, Vikings, the Middle Ages (basically any of the stuff we've based our films on). But PLEASE, understand that we've been a group of home-movie makers on a tight budget and we haven't been able to get all the perfect stuff....yet. We make the most of what we have, but as you can see in the pics of our latest project, things are changing, as each film raises the bar higher. Thanks to support from UTEP, we now have access to the equipment we need to take our work to the next level. Looks like we're really out-doing ourselves this time!

People involved in film, particularly anyone who has worked with any of the directors mentioned here, or other independent moviemakers, screenwriters, or other kinds of writers (novelists, comedians, etc.). Anyone interested in helping us make a movie (re-enactors, or anyone else that wants to help out especially anyone near El Paso). Last but not least, a producer or somebody who'd be nice enough to fund us so we can make a really great movie on the level of Gladiator and the like...or just someone who is able to get us noticed ;)
