Dixie Brown

Biography

It all started in Texas for the talented Dixie Brown, who at the age of three was singing and dancing on stage with her father at local hotels and pizza parlors in and around Houston. As her musical mentor, he introduced Dixie and her brother to all genres of music. Their musical repertoire included everything from big band to country music. Dixie’s early exposure to country music marked the beginning of her love and passion for country music, which would flourish into a determination to succeed as a country music entertainer. She was fascinated by the smooth, sultry voices of Charly McClain and Trisha Yearwood, the traditional sound of Patty Loveless, and the presence and energy of Reba McEntire’s performances. After listening to Bobbie Jo Gentry and Dolly Parton tell their stories, Dixie was motivated to pick up a pen and tell her own.

Dixie entered a talent contest, at a young age, at Jim’s Honky Tonk in Pasadena. She knew music was her calling. Even with her drive to become a country superstar, Dixie’s parents strongly stressed education, because they felt the odds of succeeding in the music business were too great. Dixie did attend college, but found herself constantly focusing more and more on songwriting and singing. Without her parent’s knowledge, she spent her weekly housing money on demo tapes. Occasionally, she slept in her car until she received her next allowance. Eventually, she would go on to graduate from college with a degree in Marketing, but has never given up on her dream to become a country music star.

Dixie performed at Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue in Ft. Worth. She also opened for Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings at the Astrohall, and was a daily winner on TNN’s “Be a Star.” Dixie performed throughout East Tennessee and Virginia with a southern country/rock band. She performed with Ben Vereen at Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. She has also appeared on numerous stages including the Hideout at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Nashville Summer Lights, Bluebird Café, Douglas Corner, , and KHOU’s “Spirit of Texas.” From pageants to singing and dance contests, Dixie has won many awards and has been featured in several news articles.
