THE BEGINNING
Music is most definitely life and budding superstar DeeJay is living proof. Born on May 8th 1989, this Brooklyn native blessed the Earth with much more than a simple addition to the upsurging census. Performing since the age of 8, DeeJay is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Training at the world renowned Broadway Dance Center and the prestigious Alvin Ailey School of Dance DeeJay caught the eyes of a few industry heavy hitters and worked with artists such as N’Sync, and Lil Mama along with choreographers such as Laurie Ann, Tony Michaels, and Gil Duldulao. With his Jacksonesque dance style and astounding moves the 19- year old dynamo never fails to “wow” an audience. “He makes it look so easy” -says a supporter- and it is… for him at least.
THE GROWTH
“High School was like one big stage…it was a competition. Everyone there had a dream they were thirsty for. I had no choice but to work to be the best when all I was surrounded by was greatness.” DeeJay said in reference to Talent Unlimited High School in NYC. Modestly walking the halls and shielding his talents, DeeJay awaited the perfect opportunity to unleash his craft. Word got out about the school musical and auditions began nearing when DeeJay realized this was what he was waiting for. Showing another aspect of his endless talents and crazy personality, DeeJay stunned viewers with his jaw dropping role as Bad Boy Chuck in the school musical “FootLoose”. From that day on it was declared that he was indefinitely going to be an entertainer.
THE LIFE
Growing up in the heart of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn it wasn’t always easy for DeeJay to focus on perfecting his crafts. With the crime infested parish swarming with dealers and hustlers of every kind, some of DeeJay’s close acquaintances got caught up in the “game” and took to the streets as a means of survival. “You got gunshots ringin’ off every other street corner- its hard to do good around here. Sometimes it’s either you with it or you not- this aint suburbia this is the real deal” says another Bed-Stuy resident. But what is known as the hood taught DeeJay to be street smart as well as resourceful. “I’ve been here all my life- despite what people think it’s a great place to be. There is a lot of talent here a lot of culture all we need is some-one to step in and be like “lets make a change” I wanna be that person. I plan to break the negative stereotypes about artists from the hood and show that no matter where you come from or how much money you have you can be some-body” And with that started the beginning of a movement.
