Kerrie-Anne ...
is a uniquely talented artist who takes great care in presenting you with profound, original, innovative lyrics and catchy hooks. Be prepared to be taken on a lyrical journey of discovering the importance words and meaning play in our lives. She does not hesitate to write how she feels. She often says “I have been blessed with a gift of creating lyrics. It’s the words which are of great importance to me. The fact that I can sing is just a bonus" .
Like many singers, Kerrie-Anne began singing in the church. At 5 years old she was singing for an audience of 1500 and from these events she grew in confidence and vocal maturity came. Singing had always played a big part in her life as compulsory weekly church service attendance was in order. Through this, she became fascinated by the passionate and emotive song performances from the much older singers. Studying their performance techniques and vocal styles was not enough for Kerrie-Anne, she wanted to learn how they were able to connect with such powerful emotions in the way that they did and apply it to her own performance.
She recalls- "I remember my mother would make me stand in the living room with the remote control in one hand and a free hand to express the song like they did in church" .
From a young age Kerrie-Anne has recieved gifts from people thanking her for blessing and inspiring them. "I used to receive different things, somethings I didn't know what to do with. At a young age I would receive gifts that I was too young to appreciate. I guess I could do with that Limited Edition Parker pen now" , she jokes. Competing as the youngest singer/songwriter for the Premier Christian Radio Song Search in 2002 Kerrie-Anne received plenty recognition for her vocal talent and songwriting skills. In the final's final she was up against a Christian Rock group but missed the winnings by 1 point. Despite not winning, by no means did this discourage her. She understood reasons and dealt with the situation maturely and with a genuine smile on her face. After leaving Secondary School she decided to focus her career goal on teaching. In order to materialse her dream of teaching infants Kerrie-Anne applied to university where she is now studying Primary Education. During this time one of the biggest platforms of exposure for Kerrie-Anne was when she joined the formerly well known choir, Ican Foundation. The choir's efforts to showcase local and national talent supported Kerrie-Anne in singing for a variety of audiences and building her confidence. Within the 2 years she was singing at high profile events for VIPs, prestigious weddings as well as small scale private functions. Kerrie-Anne claims one of the highlights of being in the Ican Foundation was when she had the opportunity to sing for the Great Nelson Mandela at the South African High Commission. "I loved belonging to a community that shared the same passion as me. We all got on and supported each others talents. It was a time of self discovery and I am grateful to the founders for thinking up such a genious idea for young people" .
Wanting to express herself without restraints, Kerrie-Anne left the Ican Foundation Choir thoroughly believing her 2 year training was complete. As she puts it "I left when my work was done." After this, she decided to put singing on hold and focus on acquiring new skills and focussing on other aspects of her life which needed developing. She began writing children's books and inspirational material for young people.
Singing and songwriting are not the only things Kerrie-Anne dabbles in. She is persuing a small scale jewellery making and customizing business. This young, fresh and creative female does not aim to stop and just settle. She is a constant thinker and inventor and always seeks people to share her ideas with. Kerrie-Anne strikes people as ambitious and creative person with a huge potential to succeed in what ever she puts her hands to. "My music is just a fraction of my many blessings, so for now enjoy the blessing which gets the most recognition" .
