City Arts Center is currently seeking interested musicians and visual artists to collaborate for a group exhibition called Under the Influence 2. The shows concept is rooted in City Arts’ Under the Influence show of December 2004. Under the Influence 2 is tentatively set for April 24, 2008 and will consist of 50 Oklahoma City Area artists works created by both (25) visual artists and (25) musicians.
City Arts is seeking visual artists to create one original piece based on a selection of music, or a musician to create one musical piece based a visual artist’s work, or collaboration between both artist and musician. Under the Influence 2 strives to feature a diverse group of musicians and artists working in the central Oklahoma area. The art should be the result of the artist’s personal interpretation of the musical selections. Likewise, the music should be the musician’s interpretation of the artist’s piece. It is also acceptable to have collaboration between the two, music and visual art.
All visual art and music selected for the show will be supplied with didactic information explaining why, specifically, the artist or musician chose that certain song or artist piece. Musical selections must also be available for gallery viewers; possibly through iPods, web downloads or walkmans. For Under the Influence 2 there will also be an exhibit narrative to document and accompany the exhibit. City Arts Center is also seeking 1-3 performance artists and musicians for opening night. The opening of Under the Influence 2 will feature live music and visual art performances.
