Diminished Fifth is a product of many things. Originally going under the name of ‘Dominion’, the ethos of the band has always remained the same; to create a type of metal that draws influence from one side of the musical spectrum to the other. There is something lost in metal at the moment, especially within extreme metal. It’s about time trendy bands step back and stop ruining metal’s sound and image. With melody, song structure and a drive to create something different, Diminished Fifth puts down the proverbial foot. Whilst being a million miles away from the reasons why Diminished Fifth sound the way we do, this is purely something that drives us further away from these commercial trends that are causing the rust of contemporary metal.
Drawing from a diverse variety of metal styles, there is something for every metal fanatic. With crushingly epic, heavy movements adjacent to blast-fuelled rawness, we keep a predominant melody, whilst inevitably producing a fresh and powerful sound. Many of our songs have been played and worked on for a number of years and have evolved while we, as musicians, have evolved. Our tastes in music have chopped and changed over the years, whilst morphing together our initial (and most important) early influences from metal’s kings with the more far-out, extreme outfits pushing our limits. We want to find equilibrium between the two. Revolutionary bands currently in the lime light such as Gojira, Mastodon and Neurosis have helped shape the core of our strong melody-based sound whilst more extreme outfits such as Akercocke, Job For A Cowboy, Suffocation and Converge keep the pulse of the sound raging fast and unstoppable. Never forgetting the importance of those bands that started off the decent into darkness and pioneered the strength of which their peers now show. As there are so many influences that we as four individuals hold, it would be impossible to list them all. Our music conveys this vast collection of influence. With a diverse understanding of music of all sorts we have been able to give birth to an influenced sound that will adhere to the starved and misunderstood minds of metal.
Being a constant unit for around 3 years now, the music is coming together in its full glory; constantly flowing, never compromising and meticulously structured. Diminished Fifth will always keep it true, heavy and original.
