Tim Moody, aka The M. Unit Project, has a long standing history in acoustic music. Beginning with his grandfather teaching him the old clawhammer banjo style, and then 6 years of classical music training, followed by a 15 year performance history as a jazzy fiddle and mandolin player, it becomes apparent that Tim is well versed as an acoustic player and musician. His background in performance mastery provided a natural progression into music composition, enabling Tim to compile composer, producer, and engineering credits on commercial CDs and in film. Compositions from his CDs have been aired on NPR programs and stations in Australia, Italy, Germany and Canada, but it is film soundtrack music that is his one great love.
While watching the Sam Shepard film Paris, Texas, Tim became intrigued with the subtleties of David Lindley and Ry Cooder’s acoustic compositions. With no discredit to the standard full course orchestral compositions that grace the majority of feature length films, he realized the power of the acoustic guitar in evoking emotions that touch and transform the soul. As other composers and music directors have testified (Snuffy Walden Thirtysomething; Once and Again, T-Bone Burnett O’Brother Where Art Thou; Cold Mountain and Gustavo Santaolalla, Brokeback Mountain) the raw emotion and exhilarating power of acoustic music is undeniable.
In 1996, after performing 16 years with various acoustic ensembles in Indiana, Los Angeles, and Washington, Tim began piecing together a studio from his experience in live sound reproduction. In July, 1997 Tim released Acoustical Pleasures to critically acclaimed reviews in The Absolute Sound, Crossroads, New Age Voice, Bluegrass Unlimited and Victory Review. Moving forward into film, he composed, played, and recorded the soundtracks to two independent films: An American Cowboy, Wildbill Productions, Pendleton, Oregon, September, 2001, and Nature’s Gift: the mountains, Canyon Pictures, Venice, California, October, 2001. He has produced singer/songwriter CDs, an acoustic contemporary Christian CD, an R&B blues CD, a tribute to the 9/11 tragedy, and is currently working on his edgy acoustic recording projects.License this music for commercial use through Pump Audio
