Radio Interview with Nekkid Frankie
On one of our rare sunny days on Lake Burien, our favorite local station stopped by to ask us some serious (?) questions.
Ok, let's just get this over with. The name? How'd you come up with that name?
Honestly it just started out with a little joke. We were lucky enough to have a meeting with My Chemical Romance last May to have a guitar autographed for a local charity. Before the meeting we discussed inviting the band to Lake Burien for a relaxing afternoon of swimming, etc. Then Joey Rose had this fantastic idea about not allowing any swimsuits. And Viola! Nekkid Frankie!!
Are you telling me MCR was at Lake Burien skinny dipping?
God NO! Are you kidding? We chickened out and didn't even invite them over for coffee! In fact, when we met with them it was kinda hard to look Frankie in the eye after joking about him naked!
So you missed your chance?
Well, there's always next time you know. Perhaps they'll be coming back to Seattle soon. We'll see what happens.
Have you been playing any local gigs since summer ended?
We don't have anything booked in Seattle right now. We've been spending some time in the studio and haven't really focused on live shows since the beginning of September. We're headed to Hawaii for several weeks and we'll look into setting something up when we get back.
What are your goals for the coming year? Aside from seeing Frank Iero naked?
(starts laughing) Well, aside from that....hmmm. We'd like to spend some time really working on our music. With all the negative things going on right now in the world it's good to take a step back and really appreciate the good stuff and enjoy our time on this planet. Music is so amazing that way. It can really help to focus us in on the great beauty that is all around us. We'll keep working with our favorite charities and helping out, but we need to take a breather once in a while and learn to slow down and just appreciate all we have.
Tell us about "For the Children" and the work you do with them.
For the Children is a non-profit that helps out the kids from Chernobyl. The organization hosts 80+ kids from Belarus, every summer for 6 weeks. They bring the kids to stay with host families in the Seattle area. They receive medical care, dental care, eat good food, etc. Just six weeks out of the radiation can add 5-10 years to their lifespan. It's an amazing program. Some of the kids gain 15+ pounds in that 6 weeks, it's awesome! It's awesome, the kids are awesome, it's amazing!! We've had the good fortune to have help from My Chemical Romance, Billy Talent, Devo, The Shins and other bands around the world. Every one has been so great and so generous with their time. It's great to know that they are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help us out!
It sounds like you guys have a very full plate and that you love what you do. Thanks for taking the time to talk today and we wish you all the best in the coming year.
Thanks for having us! This has been fun!
