Nephew of entertainer,activist / philanthrapist:Joshephine Baker.Richard A.Martin Jr was born a dancer and choreographer,has appeared on Television,Radio and at the Municipal Opera of St.Louis.He married his childhood sweetheart Albertine at the early age of 15 and fathered four children.He completed his education while serving in the United States Armed Forces(W.W. II),and performed with the USO throughout Japan.In 1955 Richard formed:The Martins' Dancers' Mothers' Club as "Director" teaching ballet,tap,rythmic dance which hepled broaden the spectrum of cultural expression.After successfully raising his four chilren he suffered the loss of his wife.
Undaunted Mr.Martin moved on to live and work closely with his aunt" Tumpy "(Josephine Baker),until she passed.Continuing in the family dance tradition and philosophy("Rainbow Tribe")he then founded:The Children's Performing Arts Academy in 1976 as Master-Teacher and Secretary in St.Louis,recieving numerous awards and accolades,which includesm May 24h " Josephine Baker Day ".On July 1st 1997 he ritered after performing 50 shows with students of diverse enthnicities and was present when a bronse bust was unveiled of Josephine in the Hall of Famous Missourians.In the wake of retirement Richard has established Joseshine Baker's lagacy with the City of St.Louis recieving her star on its " Walk of Fame" and the naming of " Josephine Baker Bullevard ".Today Richard Martin Jr.has plans to carry the resurgence of Josephine's popularity into the 21st century.
