About Me

Julian Sosa is an American actor of Puerto Rican descent who recently gained national attention after his enigmatic lead role in an episode of The Discovery Channel’s series, A Haunting, produced by New Dominion Pictures. In the episode, “Casa de los Muertos,” which first aired in October 2007, Julian played a part close to home—though no one knew just how close when he first auditioned for the role. “Casa de los Muertos” retells the story of a real life haunting in the family of legendary Latin jazz guitarist, Eddie Benitez, who happens to be Julian’s dad. Julian auditioned using his professional name of Sosa so he would be judged on his acting merits and not on any family connection. Out of scores of actors, Julian won the part, and only then revealed just how well he knew the story at hand as he took on the role of his brother, Eddie Benitez, Jr., who was the focus of the haunting the family experienced. The casting was perfect for the show’s first ethnic based episode. Julian made his national television debut with a performance that garnered great reviews and resulted in the top rated episode of the series. As the episode re-airs in the U.S. and for international audiences, Julian’s star is on the rise as a hot new Latin talent. The 20-year old actor grew up in the music and entertainment world thanks to his father and the steady stream of musicians coming in and out of his home during his formative years. Julian was interested in playing guitar himself as a child, but by the time he was in middle school his interests had migrated toward acting. He has been cast in leading roles in numerous stage productions including Romeo & Juliet, Stand and Deliver, Harvey, Visitor From Another Planet and others. His passion for acting was fueled early on by film classics starring greats like Spencer Tracy, and he has also studied acting in workshops in Los Angeles with notable acting teachers. Short Film Debut: Love Here and After—Julian has recently expanded his talents to writing and directing, as well as starring in his first short film, Love Here and After, with plans to enter the film in upcoming film festivals. Julian’s debut short could be called a ghost story, but in with a story line aiming for inspiration. He hopes the film will lead to a sense of wonder and the importance of expressing love to the people important to each one of us. He often talks about one of his inspirations James Stewart. The film has the added bonus of the ethereal, lush soundtrack provided by dad Eddie Benitez and friends, featuring music from Eddie’s CD Lovers Never Say Goodbye. Most importantly, Julian hopes to leave the viewer with something invaluable: hope. Future projects for Julian Sosa include: Cheri, and several other projects currently in development. Julian is an accomplished dancer who has studied ballroom, salsa and swing and finds dance a fantastic way to stay fit. “I make sure to keep in shape because you never know what a role will call for.”
