[email protected]*******Casas da Ribeira are a set of reconstructed stone houses in Serra da Estrela, Portugal. The Village - Póvoa Velha - is at a 6 KM distance from Seia, the nearest town, and at 1.000 metres above sea level. Póvoa Velha is a small typical village, with stone houses that date way back to the time of Viriato (the conqueror), and that were rebuilt in order to maintain a millenar type of architecture but with all the conforts that houses need in our times. As this is mountain territory, all the houses are equiped with central heating systems and a fireplace. Wood is suplied everyday during winter. And of course winter is THE season here, as Serra da Estrela is one of the few places with mountains and snow in Portugal, and has the only sky resort in the country.
But the mountain is also a very special place during summer - August is a busy month for us - as there are lagoons to explore, hiking on a lot of beautiful landscape, canoing, and a lot of other activities. Mostly, and besides the time of year of your visit, we like to note that this is a special place to recharge your batteries from all the hectic city and urban life. These stones and the mountain that houses them create a special magnetism that can be felt by anyone and that has real medicial characteristics.
