Da Commisioner

Da CommissionerLex Media RelationsIn an era where carefree lyrics and snap beats have set the trend in urban America and rap music has become the essence of pop culture, the streets are often left unspoken for without someone to cater to its cry. After years of surviving the loss and pain in his hood, street diplomat Daniel Medley appointed himself, Da Commissioner of the streets and the streets embraced his title. Commissioner’s ability to deliver verbal rawness on the mic by giving true-to-life tales from the drama of everyday living, scored him the rank of an assigned advocate for all the hustlers and grinders in the ghetto. He became the voice that massaged their spirit and the messenger that caressed their soul.Like many other hustlers on their grind Da Commissioner found that street life in Gainesville, Fl was both a gift and a curse. The streets fueled his mind with its tribulations and provoked his pen to release pictures that his head seemed to hold captive. So as the cruelties of life made their impact on him he leaned passionately on his music for a way of filtering the pain as much as he could, but at the same time Da Commissioner understood the reality of possibly being a permanent fixture stuck in the hood. He has stated, “Before music I was just trying to make it out of the hood by dibbling and dabbling in real estate along with other small business ventures but then I started making money in this rap game which is good cause otherwise I would be getting money another way out the streets.”Burned out from hearing music across the airwaves that lacked realness and substance to it, Da Commissioner put 200% percent of himself into making songs for the people that needed him to start a street movement. His “take charge” personality and aggressive point of view, quickly connected his music and his listeners together in sort of a hood unity because they shared the same experiences in life and could relate to his every lyric as he rapped it through the speakers of Chevys and Caddillacs all around his area. In the year 2006, the Grind Hard Grind Harder Mixtape Series really put Da Commissioner over the top as a local rap star but it also pushed his buzz further into to all the surrounding areas as his message and movement escalated. What sets Da Commissioner apart from so many other artists is that he is able to add color to a way of life that is most often very grim to outsiders looking in. “As I grew my life got crazier and the crazier my life got my music kept exceeding the expectations of everyone. Life has taught me to never put limitations on myself,” says Da Commissioner. After heavily grinding for 4 years Da Commissioner’s music landed in the office of C. Wakeley, whose known throughout the industry as the top manager in the southeast region and top record promoter also, thus giving him the name “The Record Breaker”. Already known for breaking artists such as Blood Raw and the S.E.GA Boys, C. Wakeley says, “When I heard three or four songs from Da Commissioner it moved me. The conviction and realness of each word was piercing plus when Da Commissioner talks the streets seem to really listen.”Relentless in his push to use his music as a message to the streets and to remain their advocate, Da Commissioner is unwilling to back down to anything. He has said, “The streets have been behind me and I’m behind the streets. I consider myself their voice.” Set on maintaining a movement that represents so many that have been looked over, Da Commissioner is the last of a dying breed so expect his first album to be nothing short of a heart racer and also the street’s survival guide.
