I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Okay, so this page no longer exists just to plug my book...It's been out for months now and my eternal gratitude if you bought it. Now this page exists because I've been having fun catching up with scattered friends and bands whose records I first bought when I was twelve. I am now holding an honest job at Harmonix Music and freelancing whenever time allows. (As for "The Sound of Our Town," it's available through the usual outlets, and if you love Boston, music history and some of the greatest bands in the world, I would still be glad to sign your copy). I remain an active writer, music obsessive, coffee drinker, Inman Square denizen, and proud owner of Cyril the wonder cat. And by the way, I am still in love with the modern world. Here we go down Route 128.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People I am already friends with and owe phone calls to....Bands I love so I can flaunt my connections and good taste...People who have put up photos I'd be too timid to post myself...Any offbeat musical and/or creative types who'll care to distract me for a couple minutes and let me return the favor.I'd also still like to meet Professor Longhair, Francoise Hardy, Lester Bangs, and Colette, if anyone can help with that.

My Blog

Still alive and well...

(though every now and then I know it's kinda hard to tell). So hello to everyone I don't see at the "other" place or evehn (shudder) in real life...been chronically busy as always, but that Beatles ga...

Fun with Internet jukeboxes

Over the weekend I partook in one of my favorite summer rituals. If you live in Boston, it's easy to do: Take yourself and your fellow music-geek friends to the Red Hat-- a quickly decaying tourist ba...

Reasons I haven’t updated lately...

1: Because I am dropping you the personal emails that I owe you. Honest! 2:  Nearly Jazzfest time, and nobody does a damn thing at Jazzfest time. 3: Cyril the cat won't let me. 4: Bought a...

The band that flung books (and other 07 memories)

Looking back at the best shows I saw in 2007, I've got to say I've had a pretty lucky year. I caught Amy Winehouse before her meltdown (far as I could tell, she did not pull any illicit substances fro...

Releases of 2007

Couple weeks ago, the Herald asked for a year-end wrapup, speifying a list of list of "best RELEASES of 2007" (instead of best albums, CDs or whatever), probably so we could deal with downloads and th...

Backstage at the BMAs

Backstage at last weekend's Boston Music Awards, there was one question on everybody's mind: Are we really going to get to talk to Bobby Brown? No such luck: The wayward R&B star, who broke ...

What I got at the record show

I'd been warned about the WFMU record show, which happens in New York every year. It wasn't the first time I'd been there, but...
