About Me
Ashley Clack a strong and outspoken 22-year-old from Sayreville, NJ who began performing her poetry in November 2004. She started an open mic & slam in August 2005 at Fusion-Ti in Edison, NJ. In 2007 she was the host at PJ's Coffee in Highland Park, NJ for their monthly open mic's known as THE LAST WORD OPEN MIC. Ashley has performed and featured at the legendary Nuyorican Poetry Café founded by Miguel Algarin. Other New York venues she has performed at: The Culture Project, Bowery Poetry Club, PS122, Five Points, Je’Bon Lounge, and Laugh Lounge. She has had the privilege of performing at the McDonald's Gospelfest, The Newark Museum, and The Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick, NJ; and The Green Mill in Chicago, IL. She was interviewed by R.A.W. Radio Internet Show and performed for their first ever podcast. In March 2006, Ashley was crowned the first ever NJ Youth Poetry GRAND SLAM CHAMPION at The Forum Theater in Metuchen, NJ. She was a member of the 2006 Newark Youth Slam Team which attended Brave New Voices in April amongst 42 teams from across the United States and U.K. held in NYC. She was a finalist for the Loser Slam Finals in both 2006 & 2007 which sent a team to represent at the National Poetry Slam in Austin, Texas. She has opened up for the hip-hop group Alpha Faktion. She opened alongside poets/mentors, Carlos Andrés Gómez(Spike Lee's Inside Man) and Oveous Maximus(documentary SP!T) for the Readnex Album Release Party. She opened for Christian R&B sensation Passion for Unplugged: More Than a Feeling Tour. In June 2007 she opened for M-1 of the hip-hop group Dead Prez. In May 2008 Ashley host "a memorial day" in honor of GJay Dela Rosa to raise funds for his family's hospital bills(gjaysworld.org). Her latest accomplishment was performing at F.I.N.D. Dialogue the fall semester of 2008 alongside acts Alfa Garcia(New York) & Boogie Bots Dance Crew from MTV & Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew Season 2. Ashley performs at schools throughout New Jersey utilizing this platform to encourage young people through art for change. She’s featured at schools such as New York University, Rutgers University, Five Towns College, The Peddie School, Edison Middle School, Red Bank Regional High School, Ramapo College, New Jersey City University, Saint Peter’s College, NJIT, and CUNY Baruch. Ashley is the spoken word artist for R.E.S.E.T. and recently a youth mentor with NJ S.L.A.M. Ashley is currently the host of a new project for charities called Sensitive Guys with Guitars.
