„Journeys“ is the project of six experienced top musicians from Zürich, who have been on the scene for the last twenty years. Guitarist Dennis Roshard, who played with Grammy Award Winner Andreas Vollenweider, wrote most of the compositions. Also Pianist Angelo Signore, whose outstanding playing enriches this CD, contributed two compositions. Philippe Mall is one of the leading sax players on the Swiss scene today. Luciano Maranta grounds the music with his solid bass playing, while Robert Mark and Willy Kotoun drive the band with their fiery rhythms on drums and percussion. The present CD is the result of their fruitful collaboration, impatiently awaited by loyal fans in the band’s homecountry, to be discovered by music lovers around the globe as soon as possible.
Based on the remarkable compositions by Dennis Roshard and Angelo Signore the band developed an exciting, timeless mix of grooving Funk tunes, beautiful Ballads and kicking Latin Jazz which leaves audiences enthusiastic at the band’s concerts. Band Members: Dennis Roshard (guitars)
Studies of classical guitar and Jazz Harmony. He played as Studio- and Live guitarist in numerous projects. His work as a sound engineer for Grammmy Award winner Andreas Vollenweider made him tour the globe several times. He now lives near Zürich and teaches guitar. Dennis Roshard wrote most of the compositions of Journeys.
Angelo Signore (keyboards)
Studies of piano and keyboards at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles with T. Totter and T. Lavitz. Angelo played with the Wayne Johnson Quartet (Manhattan Transfer). Musical Director for differen musicals and gospel productions. Thanks to his versatility he also worked as arranger, composer, musical director and musician for different Jazz, Rock and Country bands e.g. Nubya, Gil Scott Heron, Jeff Turner, John Brack, Francine Jordi, Maja Brunner, Florian Schneider, Mark Storace, Krüger Brothers and Heinz Affolter. Angelo also appeared on Swiss TV with Phil Collins and Sarah O’Connor.
Philippe Mall (saxes)
Graduate of the Conservatory and the Swiss Jazz School in Bern in 1985. Since the mid Eighties he played with almost all well known Jazz musicians in Switzerland (eg. Harald Haerter, JoJo Mayer, Dave Doran and Stephan Rigert) From 1988 – 91 he led his own groups, e.g. „The Insects“ or the „Acoustic Trio“ with musicians from the former East German Republic. 1988 – 1996 he was the leader of the Funk and Hip Hop Band „Head to Toe“ , with which he recorded two CD’s. 1998 he played with his Drums & Bass Band „Lost & Found“, featuring DJ Minus 8 from Zürich, with whom he also recorded 2 CD’s. He also plays and composes music for dance procuctions and jingles. In 2002 he founded his current Jazz Quartet „Philippe Mall Quartet“ (CD „Nature Boy“ on the Altri Suoni Lable) In 2003 concerts with the „Paradigma Orchestra“ (Large Jazz and Minimal Music Ensemble with 13 Musicians and String Quartet)
Luciano Maranta (bass)
Studies of classical guitar at the Zürich Conservatory , and bass at the Zürich Jazz School graduating in Music Education. Various stays in Cuba, where he studied with Franciso Rubio (bass player of Chucho Valdes, Isaac Delgado and Paulito). Today he is an in demand Studio and Live Bassist, performing in various groups and styles. TV appearence with Phil Collins and Sarah O’Connor.
Robert Mark (drums)
Alumni of the Berklee College of Music/Boston and the Drummers Collective/ New York. Thanks to his versatility he has worked in many differen styles. For 10 years he played in Jürg Morgenthaler’s main strem jazz quartet „J.M. Rhythm Four“, performed in the Swiss production of the musical „CATS“ and was the drummer for the Big Band „Zurich Jazz Orchestra“. Presently he is a member of the „Andy Harder Quartet“ and the „Gabriela Tanner Jazz Quintet“. He regularly performs in a unique duo setting with church organ player Markus Braun. His speciality are soloconcerts in total darkness at the „Blinde Kuh“ club in Zürich.
Willy Kotoun (Percussion)
Willy Kotoun studied Afro Cuban percussion at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana (Cuba) and West African music in Conarky (Guinea). Since 1982 he is an in demand percussionist and percussion teacher in Switzerland and Europe. At the moment he is teaching percussion and rhythm courses at the Jazz Schools in Zurich and Lucerne. For six years he has been performing Flamenco with Nina Corti, and for many years he has been very much involved in music for percussion around Switzerland. His forte is to adapt his playing to many different styles. Because of this in recent years he has been performing live and in the studio with: Vera Kaa, Co Jazz Plus, Stefan Kurmann String’s, Cadavre Exquis, Xing-to, Lerne, Vocal Contact Plus.
