Jimbo Harmon:
- Enjoys Irish whiskey
- Lost the last fistfight he was in … terribly
- Performs with a underground circus
- Spends way too much time at Fred’s
- Is not a rock star though he has been mistaken for one
- Is available for hire as a recording artist and as a performer
- Has two bands ( THE GIN FITS & THE BELLY OF THE WHALE) but still walks across Asheville three days a week to work at a service station because rock ‘n’ roll does NOT pay his bills
- Reads books in bars and feels that there is nothing strange about that
- Is currently writing a book he'll never publish because half his friends will sue him if he does
- Is slowly but surely completing a symphony for chamber orchestra
- Isn't nearly as punk rock as he used to be (the prior statement proves this)
- Almost died via falling off a 250 ft cliff in New Zealand
- Exaggerates the above to make for a better story (he was just scared)
- Actually did almost die of heart problems (the irony is just too much)
- Has posed nude ... for "artists"
- Will probably beat you to the bottom of an Irish Carbomb ... but after that he is in no way responsible for anything that happens
- Lost his innocence a long, long time ago
- Adores and suggests "Invitation To A Beheading" by Nobakov, "Post Office" by Charles Bukowski, "Our Band Could Be Your Life" by Michael Azzerad, "The Town And The City" by Kerouac, any of Hemingway's short stories and all things Kurt Vonnegut
- Can sort of juggle ... almost
Formerly a primary songwriter in the Atlanta-based latin/punk/reggae powerhouse MANDORICO , Jimbo Harmon now resides in Asheville, NC where he spearheads two projects exploding with melodic ingenuity, exceptional songwriting and a lyrical styling loaded to the brim with cut-throat poetics.
THE GIN FITS , Harmon’s rock outfit, emits a sound reminiscent of 70’s glam but with a tinge of punk rock spite and the occasional display of jazz theory through a fuzz box. The band’s rough-around-the-edges approach blends seamlessly with Harmon’s keen sense of melody, which in and of itself can leave you humming tunes for days.
THE GIN FITS ARE CURRENTLY RECORDING A NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM!!!
THE BELLY OF THE WHALE reveals Harmon in a very different light. He puts to use his inner balladeer and twists it with an array of odd melodic leads and broken odes to whores, sailors, hell-bound sinners and the like. This group could be called Americana but they linger on the edge of experimental and pump a little too much overdrive to be considered anything traditional. The songs are dark, tragic for the most part yet contain a raw, almost desperate beauty that few songwriters can achieve.
Harmon too assists in a number of projects throughout the southeastern United States as both a performing and a session artist.
