A very versatile guitar player and composer, Marcelo was born on June 21st, 1970, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
At the age of 14 he started musical and guitar lessons at “Musica de Minas
Escola Livre†with some of the most recognized musicians in that city.
A few years later he was invited to perform with local bands and artists, becoming
a professional musician. He continued his studies of music with several music teachers, and kept improving his skills with great versatility playing jazz as much as blues, jazz, rock or world music.
Along with some other great musicians of his home town, Marcelo has participated of several recordings as a side man.
In 1990, he moved to Sao Paulo, where he performed at jazz clubs as well as accompanied some artists.
In 1994 he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he took guitar lessons with Bruce Bartlett and Joe Musella (both teachers of Berklle College of Music) and attended several musical workshops with some of the greatest musicians from around the world. In the US, he joined some local groups and performed instrumental music, as well as Brazilian Popular Music, touring throughout the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
In 1997 he regressed to Sao Paulo, where he recorded and produced three CDs of different styles.
He has just released his first solo album intitled “Minas†along with some of the most important musicians in the Jazz scenery of Brazil.
With three songs of this new album, Marcelo just won “PREMIO BDMG INSTRUMENTAL†, an important contest of instrumental music in Brazil.
He performed at Montreux Jazz Festival 2007 at special event of brazilian music called Hot Nordeste Boat with composer Paulinho Ditarso.
