From Citysearch:
Blink and you might miss Austin Tamale House. Small and always crowded, this Mexican find attracts all kinds, including nearby university students and professionals in transit. Waiting in line to order, you can't help but watch the women cooking; the kitchen is in plain view. As the sign posted states, the lack of air-conditioning may be uncomfortable but it keeps costs down. To-go is popular as there are only a couple of tables available outdoors.
The food's authenticity and affordable price draw the crowd. Heaping breakfast tacos are the biggest hit with over seventeen varieties, all under a dollar. At lunchtime for just a couple bucks more, try the enchilada dinner. Three cheesy enchiladas (or beef if you choose), rice, beans and tortillas provide a cheap, filling meal. The menu includes other standard Mexican dishes, like crispy tacos, migas, huevos rancheros and chalupas as well as the usual side items.
