About Me
The recent sounds of Hip-Hop have changed drastically from: the East Coast to the West Coast thru the waves of mainstream radio to the vivacious hearts of the streets of the Dirty South. Every city habitats its own bread-bowl of hungry upcoming talent and Memphis, Tennessee is no stranger to this adventurous "Hip Hop Idol-like" phenomenon with rap duo "Shenanigans" (formally XDL & Jab). In 1999, two cousins formally known as Xavier Lacy, 23 and Justin Sherrod, 25 from Memphis's own, streets of Binghampton (a.k.a. the Hamp), formed the Hip Hop duo known in underground Memphis rap venue as Shenanigans. While most veteran rappers on the Memphis scene boast the infamous streets of North Memphis and Orange Mound, Shenanigans is coming straight-out hardcore giving more to Binghampton than just props; these men are giving praise to their humble beginnings.
Since the duo's first street released head-bangin' single in 1999, "Shake Dem Bustaz" these young artists/writers/co-produced companion has matured in terms of artistic impression and style. This is evidence according to many with their three new hits: BLACK ELVIS, Walking In Memphis, and Mahogany & Chrome. All three potentially platinum hits will be sampled on their upcoming album 'Music Highway,"scheduled for released in 2008. The duo proceed take the streets on a historical culture shock with their original track "BLACK ELVIS". Look forward to hearing the song on ya favorite radio station or club. The next song "Walking In Memphis featuring Mark Cohen; "I want to tell people about the history of Memphis and its music because we gone take it to the next level" (XDL).
Lastly, the duo re-released single, "Mahogany & Chrome" is a ringer for your eardrums! Although recorded in 2002, this laid back, Hip Hop-harmonic track is ill. The track feature solo artist "Tam", a background singer for Grammy award winning R&B music group "Shalimar" lead singer Howard Hewitt. The track "Mahogany & Chrome is a hot anthem for those who rep big cars with rims, the sound, paint jobs, and window tints and the whole nine. For those who haven't quite achieved baller's status yet, that's cool too because Shenanigans is making music for everybody! The duo gives props where it is due.
This project would not be successful with out the help of a few good men, just to mention a few: Christian Jones (a.k.a. C.J.), the mastermind producer behind Spit Sum, Walkin In Memphis, and Mahogany & Chrome. Currently residing outside Atlanta, Georgia, C.J has been a gift to the duo. Next the duo's manager and consultant Antoine Dandridge out of Los Angelos, California; whose focus is business of taking the band to the next level. Shenanigans gives praises to their parents and family with the special thanks to: Dj Ko-Jak Hot 107.1F.M. (Engineer) most the fans (old and new)
