:detronik:
Trans-disciplinary study of culture, communications, technology, and the interactive effects of combining this subject matter within a shrinking environment. Strategies of engagement and methodical deployment of manipulated images are presented within a visual architecture. Often the environment represents a microcosm of the mediated world. It is my personal belief that humans are willingly transforming themselves into cyborgs by submission to modern conveniences blinded by the barrage repetitive iconology. Manipulation is in the hands of the media gods. Transformation is inevitable and circumstantial. We are all pawns in the eyes of the media monarchy. Skillfully positioned and disposed of when their message has conjoined to all of our sensory levels and synthetic nirvana has been ascertained. Evolution is only possible by breaking this cycle. We must randomize the message... Thus will bring forth the mechanisms of civil compliance and resist the temptation of assimilation.
Detronik's visuals are dark and vengeful. Mixes focus heavily on contrasty images and are typically more black and white based. CCTV Camera technology is deployed on the subject matter transferring the POV to an intimate perspective. Motion actuates Detronik's robotic cameras to cover the subject with evolving transitions. Sound triggers generative glitch images and reactive vision programs. Detroniks message is transported to the audience by implementing a multitude of microcontroller sensory devices for interactive elements. Translating physical world components to visual output via human interaction whether or not its knowing or willing. Detroniks motives for this method of mixing is to transmit the omnipresent image of mediated totalitarianism on our surveillance controlled society.
The Medium is the Message...
Detronik is Micho aka Automaton. Micho started doing live visual/audio manipulation and experimental video installations in 1990. Much of Michos work started as a multimedia performance art group entitled Inter Animi. Inter Animi was created as an outlet for experimentation with fire, explosives, electronic device mangling, and electric sound accompanied by electronic visualizations. Much of the work was entirely too stimulating and overwhelming to all the senses and Inter Animi became a preferred display for bondage shows/parties and industrial events. Detronik as "Synthetic" phased into the Detroit Techno/House era as a visual manipulator providing surveillance style live mixes for the densely populated underground movement with weekly residency at Detroit's Motor Lounge and Sanctum. Micho had the fortunate experience of mixing for many artists/djs which include: DJ Minx, DJ Bone, DJ Shortround, DJ T-1000, John Acquaviva, Juan Atkins, Laurent Garnier, Lauren Flax, Frankie Bones, Eddie Fowlkes, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Kenny Larkin, Kelvin Larkin, Speedy J, Mike Clark (Agent X), DJ Collette, Carl Craig, Paperclip People, Innerzone Orchestra, Sven Vath, Carlos Souffront, Stacey Pullen, Punisher, mistress barbara, Time Space, Surgeon, Minx, Aril Brikah, Magda, Richie Hawtin, Liz Copeland, Adriel Thornton, Kooky Scientist, DJ Godfather, Funkstorung, Deelite, DJ Assault, Paris the Black Fu, SeanDeason, Twonz, Dan Bell, A. Garcia, Stewart Walker, Craig Gonzales, Aphrodite, Terrence Parker, Mad Mike Banks, Richard Humpty Vision, Pole, Josh Wink, Thomas Barnett, Bileebob, Matt Dear, Sean Deason, Thomas Brinkman, Recloose, Le Car, Derek Plaslaiko, Chuck Flask, Mike Servito, Brian Gillespie, Kero, Tadd Mullinix (SK1), Kill Memory Crash, Motor, Ectomorph and many many more. The early 90’s into the next millennium brought a staggering list of artists/djs that accepted Micho at their side for live visual accompaniment. Not only did these artists cover detroit but many abroad including Germany, Belgium, UK, France, and Ireland. Much to Micho's disbelief, many artists/djs accepted the visuals even though alot of Detroniks peronal motives were in the mix.
