About Me

I started playing professionally at age 13 with a dance band called The Twilighters in San Diego.I moved to Ft. Worth Texas in 1964. I joined a high school band called Jack and the Rippers. In 1966 I started playing at a club called The Cellar were I found my roots to music. I played there for several years from 8:00 in the evening until 6:00 in the morning. I also played with Larry and the Bluenotes and later John Nitzinger while I was working at the Cellar. In 1969 I moved to L.A. to further my music career; where I joined up with singer/songwriter Jerry Williams. After a short time with Jerry I was asked to join a band from Minnisota living in L.A. at the time called Gypsy. Gypsy became the house band at The Whiskey-A-Go-Go. I played on thier thrid album "Antithesis" of which I wrote the single "Day After Day" about my wife Terry. We toured with The Guess Who, Quick Silver Messenger Service, Black Sabbath, Ten Years After, and the Allman Bros. throughout the states and Canada. In 1972 the band Gypsy moved back to Minniapolis to complete tour dates with The Guess Who in Canada. In 1973 we recorded the fourth album "Unlock the Gates" in L.A. where we had the horn section from "Chicago" play on the album. In 1974 my wife and I moved back to Texas to persue a career as a goldsmith(of which I do today), and to continue to play music. Four years later my wife and I decided to start a family with our first born being a son, Ren. Three and half years later we had our daughter Ryan. I have continued to play music since my return from Minnisota. I am currently playing with the Stratoblasters, Johnnie Red, and Dave Milsap. CD's are available for all the groups that I play with. The new CD out that I play on is "Texas Blues Project" Vol.1 Dr. Wu and friends. Where I play one song with guitarist Buddy Whittington called "Jacksboro Highway" about the early Ft. Worth gambling era. I am also a proud grandfather of Peyton and Cristian Cates. This layout is from iloveyourspace.com
