About Me

I write erotica, "literary" stories with as much sex as the authorities in mainstream publishing will allow and the occasional essay about depressing things that seem to qualify as literary, no eyebrows raised.I've always loved to write but didn't have the time or the guts until my first child was born and I left my academic job teaching Japanese literature to focus on my own writing. From the beginning my stories always leaned toward the erotic. I resisted at first--after all erotic is not "serious"--but eventually I realized you have to write what you love. Dozens of published stories later, I'm still writing what I love and have had the honor and pleasure of working with the best editors in the field. My erotic fiction has appeared online at Clean Sheets, Fishnet and Ruthie's Club and in print in Best Women's Erotica 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008; The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica, volumes 4, 5, 6, and 7; Best American Erotica 2006 and most recently in He's on Top, She's on Top and E is for Exotic. My "serious" stuff has been published or is forthcoming in Tampa Review, Gettysburg Review, Fourth Genre, Agni Online, Berkeley Fiction Review, Wine Spectator, The Washington Post and elsewhere. A Japan-themed story, "Hot Spring," which appeared in Prairie Schooner, received Special Mention in Pushcart Prize Stories 2004. I'm also author of a translation with critical commentaries, Child of Darkness: Yoko and Other Stories by Furui Yoshikichi. To read more of my writing, visit my Web site or ”Sex, Food, and Writing” .The big news of the fall is the publication of my first novel Amorous Woman with Orion in the UK. It's about an American woman’s love affair with Japan and a good number of sexy men and women along the way. For a sum much smaller than a plane ticket you can travel to a rustic hot spring inn where anything goes after midnight, don the gorgeous kimono of a Japanese bride, romp in the dungeon rooms of tacky love hotels, act out an orgy straight from manga porn and slip inside Kyoto’s most exclusive restaurants for exquisite dinners of seduction. The Amorous Woman experiences almost every flavor of erotic pleasure Japan has to offer…and she’s happy to take you along for the ride. Inspired by Ihara Saikaku’s 17th century satiric novel of the pleasure quarters, Amorous Woman gives the reader a chance to journey to a Japan few tourists ever see.The novel is now available on Amazon UK and Blackwell's online. Right now the cheapest way to get a copy in the US--signed by me!--is through my Web site for the bargain price of $9.
