ISAX INTERPRETATION

About Me

Isax InJah Hailing from Toronto, Canada, saxophonist Rich Howse aka "Isax" has brightened the sonic landscape from corner bars to concert halls, performing and recording with many top artists throughout his illustrious career.Beginning in his teenage years Rich toured and recorded with Canadian legends Lighthouse and Downchild Blues Band, including playing the Chicago Blues Festival.Shortly thereafter his musical quest led Rich to Texas where he was able to interact with many great musicians on gigs and jam sessions in and around Dallas, including pianist Red Garland and tenorman James Clay.During this period he toured with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and continued his studies in the North Texas State jazz program.Rich's musical development took a giant leap with his move to New York in the early 80's.He spent the next 7 years studying the saxophone and performing in the jazz, funk and latin scenes of New York City and the surrounding area.During this period Rich was fortunate enough to have musical contact with many great musicians including woodwind specialist Ken McIntyre, drummer Warren Smith and trombonist Craig Harris. He also recorded demos with members of the Isley Brothers and played gigs with former P-Funk musicians.Returning to Canada Rich continued to develop his musical voice.Drawn to the deep grooves of Toronto's Jamaican reggae scene, his playing flourished in a very open musical enviroment.Rich's musical abilities were welcomed in the Rastafarian community and he was given the name "Isax InJah".The following years led to performances and studio work with all of the great Jamaican musicians that passed through Toronto, including Jackie Mitoo,Dennis Brown,King Jammy,Ken Boothe,Morgan Heritage,Dean Fraser,The Abyssinians,Etana,Queen Ifrica and Sly and Robbie to name a few.Isax has lent his signature sound to recordings by Gregory Isaacs,Alton Ellis and Ken Boothe as well horn section work for many Canadian reggae artists.Outside of the reggae world Isax has toured and recorded with Bass Is Base,Esthero,Glen Lewis,Ivana Santilli,Blue Rodeo,NOJO Jazz Orchestra,Kollage,Eddie Bullen and others. His musical ports of call have included England, Jamaica, Dominica, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad, Japan and every major city in North America.Isax has several instrumental singles released and one full length cd titled "Isax Interpretation" released in 2008 on the Jahmix label.Continuing to develop his "Jahzz Muzik" sound, Isax is currently getting material together for his second cd and remaining active in the studio and live arenas of Toronto.Future projects include collaborations with Queen Ifrica and Sly and Robbie.Stay on the lookout for Isax performing in your area and drop by for a visit at the official myspace page to say hi. http://www.myspace.com/isaxinjah !-START Block to put Friends and Comments in a Scroll Box-!
