PURULENT

Purulent was formed in 1992 by bassist Shelby, drummer Chris, and vocalist Elton along with original guitarist Joel. Joel was moving away, that's when Joe took over guitars for the then called 'Strict Nine'. The early music was thrash/punk and as time went by, and the band meshed even more, the music evolved towards metal/deathmetal. Once finding out that there were several other bands with the same name, the name was changed to 'Purulent' in 1993. Purulent played several shows a month in the then; music-scene devoid; Naples,FL at venues such as the Lizard Lounge, Confetti's, and La Rosita's......and every night at their infamous Shirley Street warehouse building a devoted fanbase. Naples at that time was not a very healthy environment for a metal band to have any measurable success, despite the diehard following. The band recorded several homemade demos which are still in the hands of a few fans, but mostly very rare and totally impossible to find. (hence the sound of the songs. They were ripped from cassette tapes over 12+ years old and counting......some of which...you know which....were recorded on cheap gear in a garage)The band decided to try their hand at the Tampa scene, and moved there in 1994. They began by showing up to the Brass Mug's open mic night and did their 1st Tampa gig, prompting the Mug to immediately book the band on a regular basis. They played there sometimes 3 times a week for several months, and started to make a name for themselves. It was still a struggle to make ends meet and that would eventually result in the demise of the band. Drummer Chris moved back to Naples, and bassist Shelby & guitarist Joe joined another band. This page was created to pay tribute to by far the BEST band I've ever been involved with. To possess such materials and NOT send them to us is very UN-METAL of you. ~~~NEWS FLASH!!~~~ Three of the four original members have jammed together again since guitarist Joe moved back to FL. A purulent reunion has been planned for the coming months. No! its not dead yet!
