About Me

My name is Elena Ciampa (CHAHM-pah), I was born in Boston, Mass, danced to the Electrolux at age 3, and grew up the second of seven children in a very loud Italian-American family. I sang in church and in school musicals, took piano lessons for various years, and belted out many a favorite radio song in front of the mirror with sisters, friends and hairbrush microphones. A few garage bands later, and more recently having left teaching to stay home with my two small children, I'm not getting any younger and I ain’t waitin’ any longer. The time has come to just sing and play. Blues and soul music is my favorite. Stuff with a groove. Before kids, I taught Spanish. After kids, I started working on an album of spanish and latin-american music, folk and otherwise, geared toward family, school, and world music listeners. This was 2 years ago. I hope to finish it before my 3-year old is out of preschool. I amateur sing and play guitar, piano, mandolin, bass, and percussion.I have played with a few bands in this area (northampton, mass.) and am presently on a hiatus, very busy with family. I am studying Speech Level Singing with Celia Miller, a local singer-songwriter. Highly recommend! I am learning so much from her, not only about vocalizing but also about doing what you love. When I have time, or maybe it's just when the music won't let me do anything else, I stop to write.
