About Me

Welcome. What we're trying to do here is pretty simple. First and foremost -- oh, hell, exclusively -- we hope, though trial and error, to be a resource to our community.

With any luck our online newspaper will achieve this by writing about local issues that escape the eye of traditional media, of which we were once a part at both daily and alternative weekly newspapers as well as the odd magazine or two.

Your help, however, is absolutely necessary. So, let us know what's going on in your neighborhood.
The Prime Movers of Pittsburgh Dish are:

Colleen Van Tassell. A native of Beacon, N.Y., Colleen's work has graced the pages of the Naugatuck (Conn.) Daily News, the New Haven (Conn.) Advocate and Greenwich (Conn.) Magazine. She has won numerous writing awards and, even better, one of her stories became a question on a Trivial Pursuit card. She currently writes a food column for the Pittsburgh City Paper.

Joe Miksch. Joe grew up in Beaver, PA, and has served the readership of the Oil City Derrick, the Beaver County Times, the New Haven (Conn.) Register, the Fairfield County (Conn.) Weekly and Greenwich, New Canaan/Darien and Westport magazines. He and Colleen are married. To each other.

Sports Editor Jody DiPerna loves the Steelers, loves to watch the Steelers and loves to write about the Steelers. And pretty much any sport for that matter. She also pens the sports column for the City Paper in Pittsburgh.

Food critic Michael Vivar eats out very, very often. His popular restaurant reviews are sometimes biting, a little harsh, but always honest. He's Filipino.

Assistant Director of Photography Frank Kownaki has a sharp eye for neighborhood news. He is a graduate student at Duquesne University. He's a really big history nerd.

Editorial Cartoonist Karl Huber teaches at the Art Institute in Pittsburgh. He's quite a sketch.

Frequent contributors include photographers Kathleen Cei and Jeff Glagowski, arts writer Chris Arnott, music writer Drew Cucuzza (all from New Haven, Conn.), Penguins reporter Ryan Caione (Austin, Tex.) and several Pittsburgh newspaper reporters who we can't identify because they might get canned.
