Joshua Favors is one of the new, young, burgeoning trombonists performing today. Originally from Centralia, IL, Joshua was given hometown role models early on in pioneering trombone players Lewis Van Haney and Larry Wiehe. Favors has attended Illinois State University, Arizona State University, Mesa Community College, University of Colorado-Boulder, and Lansing Community College and Michigan State University to pursue a degree in Jazz Studies . He was fortunate enough to study trombone, bass trombone and euphonium under Ed Livingston, Dr. Stephen Parsons, Ted Foreman, Gary Hellick, Steve McAllister, Doug Robinson, Corey Rom, Mike Allen, Dr. Bill Stanley, Wycliffe Gordon, Vincent Gardner and Vincent Chandler. Because his true love is Big Band Jazz, Favors studied under Jim Boitos, Grant Wolf, Fred Forney, Mike Crotty, John Davis (whom he won a Downbeat Magazine award while with University of Colorado-Boulder Jazz Ensemble 1), Derrick Gardner, and Rodney Whitaker. Favors has had the opportunity to perform all kinds of music all over the world, from Classical, Big Band Jazz, Civil War, African Highlife, Latin Jazz, to folk music in hundreds of cities around the world. He has performed at Birdland, Suntory Hall, Orchard Hall, Jones Hall, The Surf Ballroom, The Hummingbird Center, Place Des Arts, the Alabama Theater, the International Trombone Association's Annual Conference, and numerous jazz festivals worldwide. Joshua performed two year-long international tours (US, Canada, Japan) as second trombone with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and is performing on various cruise ships for Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Regent and Princess Cruises.
In a ever-developing career that has so far spanned 15 years, Joshua has had the honor of performing with many talented professional musicians including personal favorites Rodney Whitaker, Derrick Gardner, Scott Hartman, John Fedchock, Wycliffe Gordon, Wess Anderson, Bobby Shew, Byron Stripling, Gary Foster, Sam Pilafian, Jim McNeeley, Art Lande, Kenny Walker, Randy Gillespie, Diego Rivera, Rudy Royston, Chip Stephens, Dennis Rowland and Elliot Finkel. Joshua has performed percussion, horn and guitar tracks on numerous R&B/Hip-Hop albums and is always seeking performance opportunities. Joshua has been active in arts administration, taking several internships and positions with organizations and festivals such as The Kennedy Center, Aspen Music Festival, Arts League of Michigan, Colorado Music Festival, Peak Arts, University of Colorado and Michigan State University. Joshua would like to continue his success alongside the vast number of great musicians with whom he has shared the stage, including lots of his MySpace friends.
