Tim has been making a noise since working with guitarist Mike Cooper in the 1980’s and has since played with many great improvisers including; Paul Burwell, Derek Bailey, Max Eastly, Pat Thomas, Roger Turner, Geoff Hawkins and many more.
Tim plays, makes and researches period wind instruments and sings in the Mellstock Band, recreating English rural church, dance and folk music of the 18th and 19th century, particularly drawing on the work of Thomas Hardy. The band was recently heard on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, and appeared at this years Three Choirs Festival, and has featured in Radio, TV productions and film productions like ‘Pride and Prejudice’, and the ‘The Mayor Of Casterbridge’.Tim helped recreate outdoor band sounds for TV and film productions like 'Return of the Native', 'Far from the Madding Crowd' and 'Tess of the D'Urbyvilles'. He runs workshops and education projects, this year creating a thirty five piece street band for the Cowley Road Carnival in Oxford and working with Salford Youth Concert Band. He has been musical director on projects for Welfare State International, Walk the Plank and ONCE.For ten years Tim led Pandaemonium, a concert, street Band and theatre group in performances ranging from the landscape inspired suite ‘Flint’ and Sun Ra tributes to out door masques and celebrations. The masque, ‘Pandeamonium’ was inspired by the radical visionary and divine John Pordage indicted in the Interegnum for summoning dragons and bringing the New Jerusalem down in his front room.

Band Website: www.tongues-of-fire.co.uk
Influences: "Much of my creative life has been spent outdoors, performing personal ceremonies and parties, at festivals and public places, creating bands and theatre that draw on street music and the history of outdoor ritual and celebration, where the sacred and profane can get all mixed up."
Tim Hill is inspired by street bands and outdoor music, by the mysteries of improvisation and the glories of noise, by the richness of folklore and mythology, landscape and hidden histories around us, and by traditions of festivities and fairs, street music and carnivals from around the world.
