Tej Paranjpe – Director, Screenwriter, Co-Producer
Tej Paranjpe was born and bred in Houston, TX . He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 with a Government Major and a minor in Radio, Television, and Film. In the spring of 2006, Paranjpe studied abroad in England , at the University of Sussex, where he completed his film degree and made shorts across the UK. From the time he first began watching movies, he became immersed in the epic classics that his father and he would watch throughout the years. At age 7 he fell in love with David Lean's masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia. Since then he began writing short stories, which turned into One Act plays once he entered into high school. Through these nationally awarded and recognized plays that he wrote, directed, and starred in, he portrayed the likes of Mahatma Gandhi (2001), physically undergoing strenuous feats to portray the Indian leader. A nationally recognized swimmer, trombonist (having the honor and opportunity to play in Carnegie Hall at 17 and invited to play various venues across Europe at age 15), and well-known cross-country/track runner, Paranjpe is now in his 2nd year of law school on the east coast at Widener Law. The dark idea of Tremens spawned from Paranjpe's own wild imagination of an escapist world that he wrote into at night, away from the daily stresses of his first year in law school. The story evolved from a single nightmare meshed with very true problems that can be seen daily with the people you see sitting next to you, but Tremens takes that situation and launches it into the furthest extreme. Paranjpe spent time in creating each character, a flawed protagonist and a sympathetic villain as an homage to one of his favorite genres; the Westerns, creating a disparity and confusion of who the audience should be rooting for. Though the film is categorized as a thriller/horror Paranjpe approached this genre wanting to convey the story through an aesthetic style to the likeness of Sergio Leone and his Spaghetti Westerns with the franticness of Wayne Kramer's visionary style in Running Scared with the epic and operatic flare of the ever-loved David Lean. Hoping that this film will portray his visual and storytelling ambition to allow him to make his next passion projects, the western: La Muerte de los Padres and the coming of age drama: Fighting for Richter, Tej Paranjpe is proud to present his directorial debut and first feature film: Tremens.
