Known by some as a radio deejay ("Reggae Explorations" on WAPJ in Torrington, CT USA) and internet broadcaster (WTBC Reggae [LOJS]), Roots (born Michael Killiany) has been singing, playing and writing for well over a decade. Combining thoughtful lyrics, uniquely rich vocals, contemporary roots rhythms and solid production, Mike Roots is one of reggae's fresh new voices. This aspect only tells part of the story as his passion for the use of music as a means of touching lives and worshipping and praising YHWH Almighty God is firmly grounded in his local church (First Connecticut Open Bible Church, Torrington, CT) where he serves as worship leader.The songs on his solo debut "Freedom & Struggle" are for all who enjoy positive music and care to give them a listen. I see music as a medium for communicating, whether it be through playing of instruments or singing. For me that communication must be something which helps bring comfort, peace and encouragement to people. Also, it must be genuine and heartfelt- which means I have to be transparent. I must be real. But the music is only an entrance point to begin a dialogue which I hope will stimulate and reflect action (including within myself to live for the Truth, day by day). Roots reggae music at its core has always been and always should be conscious vibes (life music) for the common man, for the meek and humble, the sufferer."
