Since 1987, Tendrils has transformed itself several times and has stayed a leader in redefining natural beauty. Tendrils Hair Spa is a Brooklyn based hair salon, providing professional natural hair care products and services to a largely African American and multi- textural clientele in the Tri-State area. Tendrils Hair Spa has gone through several transformations. In the late 1980's, we were a comprehensive braiding salon "Tendrils - New Concepts in Hair Design". At the time there were no other comprehensive braiding salons in the country. We provided both chemical and braid services. By the mid 1990's, we were known as "Tendrils Hair Salon-House of Ujamma, the Natural Hair Care Boutique". At that time we stopped all chemical services, and focused primarily on natural hair styling i.e. braids, locks, twist extensions and weaves. In 1994, New York State became the first state in the country to require a license for natural hair and braiding. It was at this time that Tendrils introduced services and products that enhanced naturally textured hair. Through the innovation of the "Afro Kinky" hair fiber, Tendrils has been able to be the premier salon in the country that features services for curly, kinky, and coily hair.“Our mission at Tendrils Hair Spa is to set the standard for a holistic approach to natural hair care. We provide excellence in natural hair care service with essential oils, botanicals and herbal products that replenish the entire being. I work in a very conservative field (pharmaceutical sales). Tendrils caters to all styles and tastes, some shops don't style past the night club scene.
