About Me

What do you call this stuff? Turn it up.
(For links to our press, scroll to bottom of this section.) (We like the 2nd Westword article better than the Critics' Choice one, just so you know.) (For the January 2008 Colorado Music Buzz article -- no link available -- see our blogs above. We like this article a lot too.)
"Consistently fun and refreshingly free of ties to any musical trend, past or present." Tom Murphy, Westword, April 2007
"Their tight, alive, fully present talent definitely feeds the crowd." Judy Wolf, Colorado Music Buzz, January 2008
September 3, 2008: Action Figure 8 has been around for almost exactly two years, and we've had a great time. Our final show will be Thursday Sept 11 at The Paramount Cafe. We'd like to thank the 3 Kings Tavern, The Larimer Lounge, The Walnut Room, the hi-dive, Bender's Tavern, The Fox Theatre, The Oriental Theater, The Summit in Durango, and all the other bars/clubs we've played. Special thanks to our friends in these amazing Denver bands, who have shared stages with us and came out to our shows (like we came out for theirs): all capitals, Weird Turn Prose, Light Travels Faster, and so many others. Thank you. Thanks so much to Tom Murphy for his articles about us in Westword, and to Judy Wolf for her Colorado Music Buzz article. The biggest thanks go to those of you have shown your love, by your attendance at shows, and your comments on our music, and your advice on love and taxes. We'll probably post a blog soon with a more extensive and nostalgic look back.
Every member of Action Figure 8 has their own bands/projects going: Yuppie Ricardo plays in KINE (see our top friends). Nicholas Schmidt plays in LIVING LIKE AN INDIAN (see top friends) and does solo albums under the name TATUM POST (see top friends). Jimmy Giachetti plays in CAPTAIN DIRK (see top friends) and LEFT FOOT GREEN (formerly The Stinos--if they've got a myspace page yet we'll put it on our top friends soon). Will's new page for his solo acoustic demos is DISTANCE ENGINE (see friends)--he might be doing some solo acoustic shows, and he'll record these songs and more with members of Action Figure 8 and other musicians, this fall. If a band comes out of that, we'll let you know.
We'll probably all be playing on each other's recordings and in each other's bands. We like to do that. Thank you. We love you. Good night.
Some bands we've had the pleasure of playing with since we started in September 2006: all capitals, Kine, Living Like An Indian, The Jimi Austin, Colder Than Fargo, Januar, Pink Hawks, Weird Turn Prose, Orwellian Math, (die) Pilot, The Motet's Juno What?!, Yuzo Nieto, Little Fyodor and Babushka, Suzi Homewrecker, Team Awesome, Mannequin Makeout, Landlordland, Bop Skizzum, Future Jazz Project, the Denver Slam Poetry Team, Johnny Knows Karate, The Shift, Raleigh, The Visitors, The Daily Afflictions, The Light On Adam's Stereo, Pistis Sophia, Dualistics, Latch, The Frozen Movement...
Jan. 17th 2007: We have received the honor of being written up in Westword's "Critic's Choice". Here is the link to the article:

the nicest clubs, here and on the road

The nicest clubs are owned and operated by the nicest people. We played Friday June 13th at a place in Pagosa Springs, and brought a lot of people who drank a lot. We had a great time. Then we were pr...

Thank you friends, thank you bands, thank you Walnut Room.

Our CD release party at the Walnut Room Friday was such a party that it took a couple of days to settle down enough to blog about it. The most amazing thing was meeting people who’ve been fans f...

Thank you friends, thank you bands, thank you 3 Kings.

First, to everyone who was there--and there were a LOT of you. And then to the 3 great Kings (the nicest rock club owners in Denver, and interestingly, apparently some of the most successful); Weird T...

With Nick recording, we've spent time around the couch and the porch, and in the "actual" studio in the garage. (We've recorded some in the house for reasons of acoustics and winter warmth.) Losing ou...

We sound so different live because

Because we have to go into the studio. Because our new drummer and guitarist were not on the first CD. Because we're doing Nick's songs now too, and he sings lead on them. Because we've moved, as in w...
