Tjimba Possum-Burns is a 22 year old Aboriginal artist who writes his own music and lyrics, using rap and hip hop styles. He can also cut it live, playing guitar and didgeridoo with total confidence; joined on stage by his brother Narjic and guest DJ’s. And he’s a gifted footballer too, who turned down an offer to try out in the AFL so he could concentrate on his music.
Tjimba has performed at indigenous celebrations and festivals including, most recently, at the NAIDOC Day 2005 celebration in Collingwood, Melbourne.
He was also a featured artist at the Rapout concerts and has been a guest performer on stage with TZU and other Hip Hop acts.
He is an inspiration to indigenous children and presents workshops at KODE (Koori Open Door Education) School in Glenroy, Melbourne. Tjimba understands family and culture, sometimes leading his little brothers in a traditional dance troupe. He also presents traditional dance and stories in schools.
Tjimba has appeared on a compilation titled ‘Temporary Reflection Visas’ produced by Joelistic for the Footscray Community Arts Centre. His song ‘Hunters and Gatherers’ has been played on national radio Triple J.
Tjimba has lived in his mother’s traditional country west of Alice Springs and in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. He has so much to say about bridging traditional and urban life as a youth. Watch out for him live and grab any media you can, Tjimba Possum Burns is here to make a difference.
Since 2007 The Yung warriors have released the debut album WARRIOR FOR LIFE which has been played on various commercial and community radio stations and opened new pathways for the boys to walk. Its been a busy 2008 with the Warriors playing countless gigs including a spot at the 50 Cent concert in Melbourne alongside the Street Warriors. They've also done heaps of interviews, TV appearances, collaborations with Major US Artists THE OUTLAWZ and most recently being nominated for the 2008 Deadly Awards.
