Art& art history, books, hiking and camping, making time for enjoying bits of life between the drudgery. Elaborate cursing . People-watching. Drawing is my cure-all for every ill. All forms of creativity-in-action.
Other totally crass optimists.
SONIC YOUTH!!! PJHarvey, Robyn Hitchcock, and Smog are what I currently look for most at Cheapo's, but I love music from all over the world . Warning: I will unashamedly and loudly sing-along to Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben... Portuguese makes me weak in the knees. Fela Kuti, Frank Zappa, and Woody Guthrie are my lyrical heroes. My burned c.d.s make sense to only a few people, although I don't see why Jimmie Rodgers and Slayer wouldn't make a good double bill. Country and Western died in 1976. I'm currently in a Delta V- Edith Frost- Imogen Heap phase. Danny Elfman consistently blows my mind. Sometimes a Townes Van Zandt song can really feel like an epiphany. A friend's laughter IS beautiful music.
Mmm...Noir films at the Paramount. Brazil. Donnie Darko. Bullitt. Blazing Saddles. Ran... The Passion of Joan of Arc(No, that doesn't star the godawful Milla Jovavich!), anything with Bruce Campbell... The Forbidden Zone. Volcano High School...'cause it makes my brain hurt in the best way. The Big Lebowski... The Quiet Earth... The Man Who Fell to Earth... Insignificance... Russ Meyers flicks... Steve McQueen's my all-time fave. Oh,I almost forgot(perhaps from need of fresh, warm BRAINS!,) movies in the Zombie genre, because , well, I spend half my day being one of the undead. Do you Peckinpah?
Jeopardy!, Conan O'Brien, Buffy..., Rockford Files. The Daily Show. Lost. SNL. Going without television, though, is generally a sign that I'm living right! Without a television, I'd still find a way to watch Firefly, the best show ever.
Love 'em!!! In my dream life, I'm a librarian,(unfortunately, the library is on fire, and I'm made of lead.) Lately, I'm reading all the Christopher Moore books. I live in a world full of vampyres, and I love it. Douglas Adams. Kurt Vonnegut. "Jude the Obscure," by Thomas Hardy is the second-most important book I've read. The "Tao te Ching" of Lao-Tse (Lao-Tzu) is the one that changed my whole world. Frog and Toad are Friends... Neil Gaiman(Thanks, S.!)... Bukowski... James Dickey...Franz Kafka, the man who wrote my dreams for me. The Art of War. Rumi, and other Sufi poets... Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books... The Kama Sutra... Tim O'Brien's "Going After Cacciato"... and so many more!
Too varied to list adequately... Mark Twain, Joan of Arc... Selfless people/ Good Samaritans. Will Eisner. Jean "Moebius" Giraud. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Nikola Tesla. Librarians. Mother Nature. Whoever invented corn dogs is the hero of my 3:00 am! My brother Kenny! You, perhaps?
