About Me

found this plain layout at HOT FreeLayouts.com
..

Currently reading: What is the What? and Lonely Planet Iceland. Currently watching: Season II Arrested Development. Other activities: Boot-Camp workouts at the gym, fun wedding-related activities, shopping for accessories, tutoring, and getting ready to celebrate all those Libra birthdays, etc.

My Interests

My biggest hobby by far is travel: We're going to Iceland for our honeymoon! For non U.S. travel, here's an incomplete glimpse of where I've been and where I'd like to go next...

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Next live shows: Girl Talk, Underworld. Last live shows: Bat for Lashes, Midnight Movies, Sea Wolf, Red Lily, Xiu Xiu, Sunset Rubdown, Plaid, Lisa Gerrard, Battles, Skinny Puppy, DJ Shadow. Lately: mnemonic, andrew bird, interpol, the national, judith juillerat, feist, swan lake, the rapture.

Movies:

I need to watch a movie. Soon.

Television:

Arrested Development, Big Love, Weeds, Lost, Project Runway, Age of Love.

Books:

"Les Mots pour le dire" by Marie Cardinal, perhaps the best book I've ever read because it's so raw and real, without neglecting a thing stylistically. Other favorites: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand), Belle du Seigneur (Albert Cohen), Manon Lescaut (L'Abbe Prevost), Oscar Wilde's Portrait of Dorian Gray (this book blew my mind!), L'evangile selon Pilate and Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du koran (Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt). I prefer long novels to poetry. I guess I like to have the author's ideas hammered into my head to appreciate their complexity.

Heroes:

My sweetie, everytime he ventures into unchartered (by him) territory.

Symbolism of a Diploma

I finally picked up my diploma yesterday. It suddenly felt a bit more real that I actually have earned my Ph.D. I somehow felt smarter as I went about my afternoon activities: pick...

Spaceland

I moved to LA nearly six years ago and despite being an avid music fan, I'd never ventured to Spaceland. I'm not sure why it never worked out, but it's a pretty amazing place. I suppose that my experi...

Mascarade Ball?

We found the most magical, wonderful place for our wedding on Friday, October 26. It's called Maxim's and it's a replica of the beautiful art nouveau-inspired Maxim's in Paris.Since our idea for a ven...

Wolfowitz

I am so glad they are finally forcing this guy to resign as president of the World Bank. Now if only someone would make the World Bank resign as well. They need to get the hell out of the lesser-devel...

We're getting married!

About two and a half weeks ago, Michael and I got engaged! We are both super excited, although the idea of planning such an important celebration is kind of daunting. The proposal and the ring were so...

Why Heroes are often Problematic

I found this recent article on the hero in Hotel Rwanda quite interesting. I have seen Rusesabagina speak and I am sure that he did help many people during the genocide, but I have always questioned h...

A day in the park...

Amy and I went to the Labrea Tar Pits and to the final day of the Magritte exhibit at LACMA today. I can't believe that after all these years in L.A., I still hadn't visited LACMA or the Tar Pits. It ...
