Based in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Stefanie carves a niche as a grassroots multi-media artist as artistic director of Creatures of Habitat-C.O.H ensemble-, a physical poetry ensemble. She is dedicated to offering original works of art for performance, and supplying the community with creative educational opportunities with movement & dance::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::Stefanie has continually trained in the arts and athletics of movement and dance since the age of three, specializing in Rhythm Tap. A dancer, percussionist, and poet....Stefanie is a believer in sound and the spoken word (live and recorded). She supports a community of tap enthusiasts in the Berkshires as an educator, choreographer, improviser and organizer. She is alum of the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival School, and The Jazz Tap Residency under the direction of Jazz Tap masters, Dianne Walker and Jimmy Slyde where she trained privately in Jazz Tap education and dance. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::She has pursued her passions for dance throughout the U.S., Cuba, and Barcelona. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Massachusetts, which continues to inform her artistic process. Her work has been seen at such habitats as: LaMaMa Etc., Jacob's Pillow, The New York Dance Center, The Audobon Society, DanceSpace Center, Dance New Amsterdam, WhiteWave, Williamsburg Art Nexus, Topia Arts Center, Bowery Poetry Club, MASS MoCA, The Dance Flurry, and various festivals. ::::::She is a faculty artist for CATA: Community Access to the Arts, where her work was featured in the documentary Rhythm & Hues. Stefanie has recently completed residence (6/08)with Topia Arts in Adams, MA, with Dana Bixby Architecture in West Stockbridge (12/07 and in 2006 with The Storefront Artist Project in Pittsfield. She currently resides in Pittsfield and Somerville. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::: In 2007 Stefanie was recognized by the Massachusetts State Senate and The Berkshire Eagle newspaper as an asset to the community as a "Woman Moving the Berkshires Forward".::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::: In the summer of 2006, Stefanie was the co-choreographer and a performer with the The Berkshire Opera Company’s butoh-influenced production of Madama Butterfly. She has been employed as a dance educator by Barrington Stage Company, Jacob’s Pillow, Williams College, IS183, and Simon’s Rock to name a few. She is certified as a GYROTONIC Instructor and is a student of Laban Movement Analysis. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::: She is a member of the performance troupe, Silver Swimmers. Stefanie has a passion for Italian renaissance and Middle Eastern percussion and has studied in New York with artists Alessandra Belloni and Raquy Danziger. She was a competitor in the Individual World Slam Competition in 2005 and her poetic work was featured on Valley Free Radio in Northampton, MA. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::: Stefanie co-directs the tap, jazz and world music experiment, Rhythm Dialogues which brought to life Sole & Bone with trombone players Mike Fahn and Brian Bender. She is a member with Rose Sinclair of SOLE FORCE, a tap and body percussion dynamic duo and a founder member of the upcoming COMMONWEALTH TAP COLLECTIVE based in Boston. In her tap dancing, She intelligently infuses rhythm and movement with worldly punctuations, which enables her to create and communicate broadly and poetically across genres with a multitude of artists and musicians. She passes these skills onto her students while bringing out their natural gifts. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::: In her installation art making, Stefanie bridges causes and cultures that speak to and support her community through creative collaborations. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Stefanie is currently offering sessions in GYROTONIC through CORE DI VIE in Boston and KINESPHERE in Lee.
