Emergence:
Before Pillars of Violence, there were two bands; Burning The Hospice and Fire Escape Fiction. Jimmy Brindley of Burning The Hospice was introduced to Tony, Chris, Keith, and Dalton, the members of Fire Escape Fiction in the summer of 2006 during two back-to-back shows in which their bands shared the stage. They began to converse at various venues, realizing that they shared the same interests such as music, skateboarding and partying. The group of deviants would quickly become close friends.
The break up of Fire Escape Fiction shortly followed in December of 2006 due to guitarist Nick Hertzberg's necessary concentration on college. In April of 2007, while Burning The Hospice was in a similar situation though not yet disbanded, the five individuals decided to start a new project. For about four months the band practiced rigorously and by August when BTH had already called it quits, Pillars of Violence began playing shows throughout New Jersey.
The sound of Pillars of Violence is strongly influenced by Converge, Pig Destroyer, John Murphy [28 Days Later Soundtrack], and Gaza. At the first practice the band made it clear that they were not going to conform to the generic two-step into breakdown formula that is currently plaguing heavy music. Lyrically influenced by the vices of life, front man Christopher Leonardis delivers his message with a straight forward, sad but true style. Regarding topics such as relationships, anger, and discomfort, the lyrics are relatively relatable.
When on stage, the band's performance can be described as emotional, aggressive, chaotic, and extremely physical. Band-to-crowd interaction is always present and each member provides full commitment to entertain. After the set is done, all you can do is drop your jaw. When you're watching Pillars of Violence it's a definite experience.
Thus far the band has shared the stage with such national acts as Life In Your Way, CDC, and Soldiers. In the winter of 2008 they self-recorded ten songs and are still deciding in what way they want to release the recordings. Pillars of Violence is an ensemble of devoted teenagers that can't be stopped and they'll remain in your face until they reach they're ultimate goal. So get used to them.
