About Me

Certainly it can be said, one who falls must get back up, Irvin Whitlow is no stranger to such saying. No one person’s life is ever perfect, however some run into more unfortunate circumstances than others. Being able to survive such falls and bring yourself to personal redemption is more of a struggle, however the rewards of such are much deserved. To some personal struggles often come with a coping strategy, fortunately for Irvin music was his drug of choice. Growing up in a neighborhood that isn’t necessarily deemed safe, known as Roxbury, Massachusetts, Irvin is the not so typical poster child of a broken home. Having 10 siblings all together, all being half brothers and sister. Two half brothers from his mother, three half brothers and sisters from his father, as well as two additional sisters whom Irvin has never had contact, or even spoken to in his life. Unfortunately for Irvin having a father figure around was near impossible, for; his biological father was a victim to alcoholism. To make ends meet, Irvin found a passion for the drums at the young age of three and pursued his love. Irvin went on to attend the Boston Arts Academy as an instrumental major. Having accomplished much on the drums, he went on to tour with the McDonalds® and Coca-Cola® Summer Band Camp for the drums at the age of fourteen, this group consisted of over one thousand college students, however Irvin was quite the exception. During this time Irvin also found a love for rapping, and soon enough Dj Clinton Sparks gave Irvin the name host after he took the spotlight at a local party hosted by Sparks. Irvin was given the opportunity to polish his skills and even release a few mix tapes, with the help of high school friend Eddie Mathews, or better known as Dj Moneybags. Irvin went on to be mentored by SHELLS, a New York underground mix tape rapper, who taught Irvin how to construct his words together and create sixteen bar tunes. With success from his tapes Irvin went on to share the stage with artists such as Trey Songz, D Block, Diplomats, nappy Roots, Ne-yo, 112, and Lupe Fiasco, all this while Irvin was still only in High School. Due to unfortunate events Irvin got expelled from high school his senior year and went to attend an alternative school, there he realized he needed to get his act together. Once being accepted into Johnson and Wales Irvin turned his life around. He became a college representative his sophomore year at Atlantic Records, and by his senior year he moved up to Urban Music Consultant. Now you can find Irvin working diligently at WBRU 95.5 as a music consultant and A&Ring several projects as we speak.
