.....All the music on this site was recorded as it was played...that is...stream of consciousness...it is fully improvised....
Merrilyn spends a great amount of time experimenting playfully with the piano and this has truly come through in her latest work. Many years as a pianist/vocalist in some of the world’s finest venues enabled her to finely temper her craft as a musician. She did, however, intuit that there was more to be revealed. The death of her father in 2001 led to profound changes in her music and she began to explore the ties between music and healing resulting in the release of her first instrumental album, ‘Breathe’.
A mutual interest in creativity as a healing tool led her to a destined meeting with artist Silvana Messing - Notari. A resulting collaboration flowed effortlessly and in a stream-of-consciousness, ‘The Painting’ was born.
Merrilyn continues to create expansive musical works and employs highly innovative and successful methods to work with students of voice and vocal sounds. She is choir director for contemporary acapella group, Sassy, conducts workshops in using voice as a creative outlet and also works with children of the Umoona Community in the outback town of Coober Pedy, Australia. To date, these talented children have written and recorded over a dozen songs under her guidance. In association with The Mental Illness Fellowship Of South Australia , Merrilyn produced and recorded a meditation CD for sufferers of mental illness and depression.
“When it comes down to it, life is much simpler if we learn to just breathe and stay in the moment. Then we become aware of who we truly are.â€
