2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest Regional Finalist - "Letting Go"
2007 Detroit Music Awards Nominee for "Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Instrumentalist" (accordion)
Mark Iannace (aka Dr. Bellows) has been 'practicing' the medicinal art of music for quite some time now. A veteran of the Detroit music scene and the folk circuit, Mark has performed in many different avenues ... from contemporary folk, to musical theatre, to vocal jazz.
As a member of the folk/pop Tangerine Trousers, Mark toured thru the Midwest and into the South-East ... featured at venues such as The Bluebird Cafe, The Ark, The Ann Arbor Folk Festival, Legion Arts - Cedar Rapids, Benefit for Alejandro Escovedo - Raleigh, Blissfest, and Hiawatha Music Festival. He was a major force in the Trousers signature 3-part harmonies, as well as sweetening up the pie with a unique accordion style. The group had the honor to share the bill with Martin Sexton, Ani Difranco, Old Crow Medicine Show, Donna the Buffalo, Jackie Green, Railroad Earth, The Clumsy Lovers, Ruthie Foster, and The Bluehouse. While with Tangerine Trousers, Mark helped the band win 3 Detroit Music Awards. The bands last CD "Dressed for Success" got strong reviews from Performing Songwriter ("..damn cool!") and No Depression ("an unassuming powerhouse") magazines.
Mark also has been blessed to play guest-accordion spots on stage with Chris Stamey & Peter Holsapple (of the dbs), Jill Jack , and Jen Cass. As well, he has contributed harmony vocals and accordion to Stewart Francke's "Wheel of Life" CD.
Mark was also a member of Blowtop , Detroit Music Awards Nominee for Outstanding Indie Group. The band has recently reformed for select shows.
He is currently playing select solo shows of original tunes, and also performs with former Trouser-mate Luke Sayers --- their new full length CD, "Radio Flower" was released May 2008 at The Ark in Ann Arbor.
The song streams above are some of Dr. B's original work ... check back soon ... there are more to come. Look for the debut CD release later in 2009!!
