About Me

Rick Rigsby is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. Attended Dunbar Hi. School where he was mentored by Charles L. Scott band teacher and world reknowned bassist for jazz piano legend Red Garland. Rick started his music education on violin in the 3rd grade, but by the time he made it to Dunbar, his influences changed from Stavinsky to Herbie Hancock/George Duke. Under Charles Scott, Rick's education and repitoire advanced to Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, Santana,Sly & The Family Stone, Rufus & Chaka Khan; and The O'Jays. With a single thread running through each artist to join them--it was all about the music. When Jazz /Fusion made the scene the music was going from being about the group to the individual players like: Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Alfonse Mouzon, Josef Zawinul & Weather Report, Jeff Lorber etc. "All of these influences from the 70's to now, molded Rigsby into one of the most dynamic and prolyfic bassists today"-according to David Ritz / Author & contributing editor w/ Rolling Stone Magazine. "When it comes to Bass, I play the role as a supporting member of what ever artist I'm working with. I believe the rhythm section-primarily drums & bass-anchor the music no matter what style or configuration of instruments. There is always time, especially in real music today, to step up and "say something". And that's the one thing that young players need to get back to". Over the past 20+ years, Rick has performed and/or shared the stage with a who's who of the industry. To name a few: Johnnie Taylor - Billy Preston - Jean Carne - Tom Scott - Kirk Whalum - Joe McBride - Joseph Vincelli - Buster Brown Band - Freddie Jones Jazz Group and a host of area local artist in the DFW area. Rick has toured Spain, Canada and the U. S. before thousands of audiences. And to recognize his gifts early in his career-Texas music magazine "Buddy Magazine" voted Rick Rigsby Texas Tornado Of Bass-Hall Of Fame, awarded his plaque at The Hard Rock Cafe-Dallas. Rick also has numerous recordings under his belt. The latest being co-writer with smooth jazz recording artist/saxman Joseph Vincelli on the hit single "Stop Six"-played in heavy rotation by Koai 107.5 The Oasis for 18 months! Rick named the song Stop Six after his Neighborhood. Rick is CEO of Rigsby Entertainment. A company that's dedicated to the artist for booking and artist development as well as education. Some of the artists' Rigsby Entertainment has worked with are: Pieces Of A Dream Waymon Tisdale Yarbrough & Peoples Joe McBride Arlington Jones Rachella Parks-Washington Buster Brown Band Gerald Veasley And that's just the beginning...... A True Texas Legend-Jazz Tenor Virtuoso Marchel Ivery.... has left the stage

He was my friend and mentor for over 30 years. I spent my young years following him around gigs in Dallas trying to understand why and how he played like that. He didn't sing a note, small in stature...
