About Me

After 15 years of rockin' around the sofa it's time to get up and bring out some good old-fashioned west coast music made in Germany.
Axel Münzberger was born in Frankfurt in 1967 and started playin' guitar at the age of 13. He grew up with Dylan, The Grateful Dead and his personal heroes Crosby, Stills & Nash who woke him up in the morning and helped survive each day since his early school times. In the late 80ies Münzberger formed his first group "Josephine's Bacon" which was supposed to be a kind of psychedelic folk rock non-school band, and at that time he was convinced to be on a good way to become a great electric guitar player.

“This must have been the reason why I regularly bothered almost everybody with at least 15 minutes of guitar solos in each second song”, he says today.

Nevertheless Josephine's Bacon found its very own sound and style of songwriting.
In 1992 he moved to Switzerland, leaving all behind and starting all again from the beginning. For a very short time he played the lead guitar in a country-band where he met the bass-player with whom the new group "Soulbreaker" was formed. Soulbreaker started as a genuine blues-band with a brass section and a black singer who really had the blues! Sadly he didn't come to the rehearsal anymore right a couple of days before their first gig. Till that time Münzberger had never been singing in public. However, to retrieve the situation he gave a list of about 20 easy songs which he used to sing from time to time in the bath room to the others of the band and they played the gig without even having rehearsed them. This was the beginning of the new Soulbreaker and “I felt just like being reborn as a singer and songwriter”.
Many of the songs Münzberger wrote at that time he still plays nowadays. Well, Soulbreaker came to an end for the usual reasons. After a period of modest success some wouldn't rehearse anymore, one even would regularly fall asleep during rehearsal - little trouble here and little trouble there. This project really had to come to an end!
Two years later Münzberger returned to Germany, sold his electric guitars, most of acoustic guitars and all the rest of technical stuff. He left all ambitions behind and just wrote songs for his own delight.
”Looking retrospectively at the past 15 years, I'd say I needed that long period of reflection to mature and to find my style”.
Now he’s got a suitcase full of songs and feels for presenting them to public.
Though he never really believed to release any of his songs, lucky circumstances allowed him to get in touch with Mike Ungefehr who is a well-known manager, producer and marketing/pr-consultant. With his help he realized his first EP “Tears For Angie”, supported by Dave Mette (drums), Frieder Gottwald (bass) and Ole Rausch (git.) from the Laith Al-Deen Band. Keyboards were arranged by Hannes Folberth who you might know from the famous German group Eloy. Last but not least some saxophone was added by Bobby Sattler.
