My Interests

Music:

Influences: My Dad was my first influence; he played bass. Next, Anthony Jackson's work on the OJay's records caught my ear. The song "For the love of money" was the first bass line that I learned. I was a big fan of Led Zepplin in my early years; John Paul Jones. My dad talked me into studing Cello for a while in Junior High. In High School I came back to bass and discovered Marcus Miller; he is my biggest bass influence overall. Also, while in High School I was turned onto Herbie Hancock's song "Chameleon". Listening to that song taught me how to lock in with a drummer. Also, during that period, studying with Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, Satriani etc.) really got my hands going and started me on the right track conceptually. Then, in College I took some lessons with Mike Richmond (Miles Davis, Stan Getz, etc) However, my greatest influence and conceptual musical development came when I met my mentor Jim Kelly( Classical & Jazz guitarist, College Professor, New England Conservatory Alumni). Jim opened my ears and de-mystified many things musically for me. I studied the music of Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Joe Pass, and others. I continue to be influenced everyday by the many great musicians that I know and work with. Some bass players that I like to listen to are... JAMES JAMERSON, Marcus Miller, Anthony Jackson, John Patitucci, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Dave LaRue, Sam Jones, Diane Killings, Pino Paladino and others. I feed off of the inspiration that I get from listening to players like these. What I love most about being a musician is that you can always grow and get better. I still get excited and energized about things that I continue to "discover" musically; there is sooo much to learn...I want to learn it all! :) I'm always searching for new playing approaches on my instrument. As well, I put the music first when I'm playing. Then, when I get my chance to shine...I seize the moment!
