Say It Loud
People have come to know me as the guy who always has something to say. I am as much a thinker as I am a writer and a speaker. Constantly observing life, events, and people, I find myself contemplating the realities that surround me. I wish I had the time and energy to share my thoughts and views with the public viewing audience but unfortunately I have a lot on my plate nowadays. I have recently come to terms with the fact that I am no longer young and free as I once was. At the age of 23, I am just starting to realize the true meaning of responsibility and adulthood.
The most frequently asked question I get from people is “what is your plan?†or “when are you going to law school?†Well I graduated from UT Austin with a Philosophy degree in May 2007 but after carefully thinking about my next move, I decided to take a couple of years off from school to get some experience in a law firm. I fought my way to earn a rare but promising opportunity working as a full-time Litigation Assistant at the Law Office of Becky Beaver. Aside from the long and stressful 50 hour weeks and the constant demands and expectations, I do find the position highly rewarding in terms of how it is preparing me for law school. My boss is acknowledged as one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) family lawyer in the great state of Texas. I figure if you want to be the best, you have to work with the best. Hopefully I will find that my instincts serve me well after this 2 year experience.
Unfortunately, this great opportunity has its price. My social life has been drastically sacrificed as a result of the lack of free time that I have. I spend most of my time with my girlfriend of 3 years, Eiryne, and our precious dog, Sophie. They are my family and my primary source of comfort.
I will be applying to law schools in Texas for Fall 2009 after I have earned a recommendation letter from Becky Beaver. As of now, the University of Houston Law School is at the top of my list. So depending on how things work out, I may find my new residence in Houston, Texas.
The second most frequently asked question is “what kind of law do you want to do?†Most law school representatives I spoke to all recommend that I remain open to all fields of law so that I can take a variety of course types and find out what truly drives my passion. However, if I were to choose right now, I would definitely want to get involved with public law, working with the government to ensure the best policies, and actively engaging communities and efforts towards developing human rights and civil liberties specifically in Vietnam and in the Asian American communities in the U.S.
The world is changing and people are thirsty for progress, tired of corruption and apathy, yet filled with hope for a better future. In the absence of self-less leadership and responsibility, I hope that I can become part of those who choose to answer their call of duty to serve mankind in the fight for freedom, equality, and justice.
