About Me

Steve Kemple’s current body of work began when looking at ancient Chinese landscape painting and wondering, “What would happen if they were paintings of outer space?” The results could be summarized as a formal exploration of traditional sumi ink, fluorescent colors, and the implications of poetic dream-space in the hanging landscape and horizontal scroll formats. The works on paper range from bizarre symbols resembling ancient shamanistic cave paintings or Inuit totem poles to crude approximations of 1960’s Op art, employing intuitive magical geometries. His investigation of geometries within an hallucinatory poetic dream-space continues with a series of semi-improvised compositions for electric piano involving manual simulacrum of echo devices and the artificial space implications of reverb. He graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2007 with a BFA in Painting and has since gone on to found The Cult of Secret Geometric Neon Mysticism, of which he is the self appointed leader. He is currently studying philosophy at the University of Cincinnati. 09072008I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
