Thelonious Dub

About Me

Joe Bartone, Boston guitarist (Berklee, Sun-Ra Tribute Arkestra, Extropians) formed Thelonious Dub in August of 2007. Sean Rainey- drums (Berklee) and Kyle O'Donnell sax (U North Texas), Alex Wilkerson – Upright Bass; they perform original compositions as well as Monk, Radio Head, Pink Floyd - all interleaved with deep Reggae dub influences. Dub is the perfect counterpart to jazz improvisation. It is a spontaneous layering of lush ambient melodies and sounds over a hypnotic sensual drum and bass rhythm. Modeled after the "Modern Lounge" sound, T-Dub draws from groups like Weather Report, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation and Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare. To pursue this sound, Thelonious Dub adds electric sitar, synthesizers, & effects.
