ABOUT ME: I've been making records since my teens and recording bands since my late twenties. I'm now based in Seattle and have been working with bands here since 1997. Most of what I have worked on would be considered rock with some projects leading me to experimental, folk, country and jazz. I also play guitar, bass and keys in various bands including the Tripwires, Steve Turner and His Bad Ideas, and Mark Pickerel and his Praying Hands, Roy Loney and the Longshots and occasionally others…

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I run a small studio called Crackle & Pop! (formerly Audio Bardahl) with my partners Andrew Smith and Scott Masoner. I usually track louder full band things at some of the other fine studios in town and do overdubbing and smaller projects at Crackle & Pop!. Some of my favorite rooms are Chromasound, Avast!, Electrokitty, Soundhouse, Studio Litho, Egg Studio and Mushroom. Crackle & Pop! is located in Ballard, has great gear, an intimate and very functional layout and is quite affordable.
Influences: My personal influences are all over the place – early on it was Led Zep and the big rock of the 70s. Then came punk and destroyed that, the Buzzcocks and the Jam and the Undertones. From there I went backwards to the 60’s and discovered soul, Motown and garage and more British bands trying to sound like Americans. Then came a period of country and roots, George Jones to NRBQ, then rock became interesting again in the 90s. The producers I love don’t necessarily have a sound but they manage to make bold records that are unafraid to be simple yet effective.
Sounds Like: Here’s an abbreviated list of the artists I have worked with:Mudhoney, the Briefs, Smoosh, The Supersuckers, The Minus 5, Llama, The Fucking Eagles, The Cute Lepers, Dear John Letters, The Old Haunts, Steve Turner, Whiting Tennis, The Valley, Lillydale, The New Fangs, The Wages of Sin, Dept of Energy, The Posies, Murder City Devils, Gerald Collier, Gas Huffer, The Small Change, The Fallouts, The Riffbrokers, The Doll Test, Andrea Wittgens, The Pulses, Dr. Explosion, The DT’s, The Model Rockets, The Young Fresh Fellows, The Boss Martians, The Earaches, The Makers, The Kent 3 and many more.
