1994 - 2001
Wanting to import the sound of '90s metallic hardcore brought on by the likes of Snapcase, Quicksand, Turmoil, and Gorilla Biscuits, Veil re-introduced this genre normally familiar with American audiences to their scene of Hannover, Germany. Having gotten their start in 1994 with Raoul Festante on vocals, Nils Nordmann on guitar, Florian Schul on drums, and Jens Lauterbach on bass, Veil quickly released two EPs on Holland's Threesome Records before their 1996 full-length, The Burden of Life, followed. In the midst of two European tours that came about within the next year -- including gigs with 108 and a stint opening for (Bio)Hazard -- a compilation of their first two 7" along with a few odds and ends came out in 1997, entitled The Works. 1998 saw Veil's third album, Words Again Nothing, released on Century Media Records. ~ After this, VEIL released another Mini-CD in 2000 which would be the last output of this band. Members later went on to form other projects such as I DEFY (old school melodic hc, Raoul and Florian) or SITUATION LECLERQ and KÖNIGIN MUTTER (electronic, Nils and Shaun).
In their career, VEIL released two full length albums ("The Burden Of Life" - Frontline Records, "Words Against Nothing" - Kingfisher/Century Media), several singles on THREESOME RECORDS, contributed to a dozen compilations and one mini-CD ("Out Of The Shadows" - Linden Blvd. Records). The band has played nearly 400 shows all over Europe and opened for acts such as SNAPCASE, TURMOIL, EARTH CRISIS, BETTER THAN A THOUSAND, BATTERY, VISION, BIOHAZARD, 108, REFUSED, ABHINANDA, RYKERS, BACKFIRE, DESPAIR, etc. and many others...
