The original performing line-up of the bad genes:
Scott Quay - vocals
Steve Hill - guitar
Curt Biondich - drums
Sean Whelan - Bass
This was the line-up that played the initial shows from April to December of 1992, recorded an initial 6 song demo tape in June of 1992, and recorded the first single (Rock the Boat / Dead People) that was released on RIPE Records in September that year. This line-up wrote the core of the songs that made up much of the set for years, played in Pittsburgh, Philly, New Jersey, State College, and elsewhere.
In 1993 the line-up changed to:
Scott Quay - vocals
Dan Barnhill - guitar
Blair Powell - drums
Sean Whelan - Bass
1993 was a very productive and busy year. Many new songs were written, and we recorded and released the "Four Songs" EP. With Blair and Dan on board, the Genes played all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, and in New York.
Influences: The core song-writing team for the genes brought together a wide range of rock-based music ranging from American Hardcore, Punk, English Punk Rock, both political and regular.
Favorite songs ranged from Rockabilly to Reggae to Old School Metal. The collision of sounds and styles that came out in the songs was largely a result of this.
