pocketoffog

hi, i'm mike goodin and i've played music here on the west coast of the u.s. for most of my life. i've been performing on stage and recording for years with bands like lot49, grasshoppers and 7th direction. pocket of fog is my latest project. I started this project with the notion in mind that their are a multitude of extremely talented players out there itching to play some quality music but, as they have families and lucrative day jobs, just ain't ready to leave said families and day jobs for weeks at a time to go out on the road. It doesn't menat we're any less passionate about music, just that we value time with family and friends more so than sitting in a rented truck smelling each others bodily odors for days, weeks, months ;-)i met a great drummer (matt sather) and bass player (peter rochelle) up here in sonoma county (indeed among the grapes and cows there are some terrific players) who laid some great tracks for the first CD. More recently Gary Neargarder (formerly of Poor Man's Whiskey) has been dropping some stunning rhythms on acoustic guitar on the mix. I'm hoping to have my many guitar playing buddies record tracks on this CD as well as all manner of guest mandolin, violin, banjo and saxophone players with any luck.the influences that can be heard in the music i wrote for this CD are anyone from Traffic, and Pink Floyd to Leftover Salmon, and String Cheese Incident to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and, crap, so many others. i have enjoyed and explored the genres of rock, bluegrass (or, as Lance Case from Open Space Project calss my grass influenced music "slam-grass"), reggae and, more recently, jazz and all of them influence the music you here from this band (even punk and metal to a lesser degree...).as a song-writer i hope for nothing more than, perhaps, to create the canvas upon which many of the great musicians in nor. ca. will paint a masterpiece...
